DL-44 build on newer Denix: Logo Addressed (no filler added)

Tried to mimic the scoring in the grips. Figured mine were good enough for now so no need to purchase other more accurate grips until these rot away. Still have more work to do, some light sanding and scratching and rubbing some oil, dirt and 80 yrs of “old” into the them.

Looks good! I did the same on mine. You may grow tired of the Denix grips teehee... :) This looks great though! Countersink...?

Thanks Pedro I’m pretty sure I will at some point too, but until then this will have to do. The countersink on the grip is there it’s just very subtle. It virtually disappears into the grip. Also started to blue the gun tonight, tomorrow I’ll tackle the scope mount and weathering.

The best advice I can give if you end up using stencils to do the weathering on the scope mount is to apply the knob stencils while they are on. If you do them while they are off the scope they won’t line up like you want them when they screw on.

I feel like I’m hanging stocking for Christmas

I am almost done with mine, all I need to do is to have a drill press to the hole in the barrel to be precisely at a 90 degree to put the bull barrels screw into it.

What I am going to do is to let the barrel of the gun to longer the shortest length possible put the bull barrel as far as possible and then make the hole.

After I started weathering the knobs and crossbar I didn’t really like the brand new look of them. This thing would have seen some use so I decided to just touch it up a little to give it a little more wear. All I did was take a Q-tip and just roll in back and forth on the knob to dull it up a little with some aluminum black. I didn’t wipe it clean before hand because I wanted the aluminum black to not take to it in places, just let it do what it wanted to do naturally with the grime and oils that are there.

You can see a little bit of difference as the left knob has more shine to it.

Received my stand yesterday. After talking with gunnerk19 and really liking the simplicity of it, I liked it even more after placing it in the case I got for the blaster.

I wanted a case that kept the dust off it as much as possible, mainly because I hate dusting lol. The Sammanhang from IKEA fit the bill for what I wanted.

The reasons I didn’t pick the other cases out there on the market were they all hid the other side of the blaster. Why put all that effort into a blaster and then only show 50% of it? They were also pretty much all acrylic which would scratch easily. The Sammanhang is all glass and steel

The only issue I had with the Sammanhang was that it’s all black. I like how the black frames it like a picture frame, but internally it just hides it. I had some chrome spray paint so I figured I’d hit the inside with it so that any natural light would bounce off it in any direction. Even at night it does well.

Since it’s on the stand in the case on the diagonal you can pretty much see all angles of the blaster now. Really happy with the stand and case. I haven’t finished the grille on the front yet as I want to smooth out the 3D print ridges inside the fins and add the little black dot inside the mystery disk as well. Otherwise she’s done.

What did you use to age the brass, it looks great!
I did a controlled oxidation with a Q-tip and dabbing Aluminum Black on the brass. I didn’t saturate the tip either, it was barely wet so I could control the layers and so it would evaporate immediately. Thanks for the compliment.

HB1098S I tried to get different lighting shots of the brass so you could see differences etc. Ignore the screws on the scope mount and brass as I haven’t aged them yet. The screws that came with the DEC brass won’t take to the Aluminum Black so I might just root through my coffee cans to see if I have the same thread and replace them. I’d rather not just use a Sharpie.

I should also point out I didn’t use any cleaner on the brass prior to applying any of the Aluminum Black. I wanted there to be inconsistencies on how it was laid down and if there were blotches, finger prints, spots of oils or dirt, it just added to the look and let brass under it come through at a different opacity.

I did similar, thanks for sharing more pics. Your blaster came out beautiful! I pulled out my Remington skeet shotgun and I like the aged look of my blueing. I’d never done this before so it was a real trial and error as I got started. The steel parts were pretty easy, the aluminum parts easily take the blueing but it doesn’t “stick” or penetrate like the blueing on the steel parts.

I’ve used several, others builds as reference. Do you have any good shots of the actual DL-44 from ANH? Thanks again Diggs
