District 9 Fluid Device(SPOILER)

I wonder what the original item was ?
I'm thinking it was a spray can of some sort.
Maybe hairspray, or something like that.
The details on it almost seem like a sharpie or something with a couple decals.

You can see the injection molding flashing nip on the top of the black cap part. It's got to be created from a found item. They cut out the viewing area and inserted a clear plastic tube and marked it off with black lines. He says it's glass though. I wonder if a washed/cleaned out fluorescent tube would work for that area. The black cap has indentations on it and a flattened edge. Got to start looking at can based stuff with a black cap that matches up. The size is more along the lines of something hair spray, mousse, or deodorant based.
 
i remember when it sprayed him the black cap popped up or something, though that could have been a digital effect. The whole thing reminds me of a spray can...maybe a thin one used for hairspray or something. The top area really looks like the ridge where a cap goes.
 
That flat part pops out it shoots the fluid on him. Reminds me of those thermos cups drink tabs. The strange signs on the side near the black cap are raised.
 
Well, I'm thinking of just machining the main tube as reference tightens up a bit. Also when Mr. Pistol works up my machine drawing 'cause I just don't want to. :angel
 
Now here is a shot in the dark.
I'm thinking the end he gets sprayed with looks like the end where a cap would go.
Is it possible that the "glass" tube has the black cap on the end, and then that acts as a sleeve over top of the silver can.
Again, just a thought.
I also thought that it looked like a hair product type can of some sort.

it looks like it must be from some kind of spray can, look above the red line, its the "lip" from the bottom(or top) of an aluminum can.

I think you're reaching a bit.

The entire piece looks machined to me.

After a lot of poking around, I think I know what this is.
A giant poster marker.
I haven't figured out the correct brand though.
The felt tip ends look very similar to spray cans, and it explains how the black cap sticks on the other end.
Also I think the size is correct.
If you do a google search for giant poster marker you will see.
paint marker or paint pen also seems to be close.
I'm not saying this is IT, but is sure seems close.

I like the giant poster marker idea too but do those get big enough. Sorry if this already came up but what size is this thing with the black cap in place? 2" wide maybe by 9-10" long?

It does look like a thin metal case with a slot cut out.
 
Because of that cut out clear glass area, I'm fairly sure that the bottle that sprays him is not the same one he's showing off to the camera. His hands cover most of it and you can only see the black cap.
