Dirty Harry props

Screencap of prop badge and ID:

My latest acquisition, shown on the far left. Yes, the badge is all metal:

A nice addition to the collection. The .44 is a screen used prop from Magnum Force, it is made of soft sponge rubber. I also have the screen used speedloader he hands to actor Hal Holbrook in the movie.

Here is my real .44 for comparison. The brass key is an SFPD call-box key:

Someone asked why my display badge is at an angle. Good question. In the original Dirty Harry they used an odd, non-SFPD issue badge case which was too big (note space around ID card). They made it so that the card was upside down to the badge.

In subsequent Harry movies, they use an issued SFPD badge case that is designed to show the badge in a portrait orientation but put the badge in a landscape orientation causing it to be tilted. They also put the ID card in the case so that the badge and card were head to head. Here are some pics that I hope will illustrate what I'm trying to explain.

Note the space around the ID card in the above photos and how the star's top two points are lined up with the "hinge" of the case.

On the two left photos, note how the ID card is centered in the window and how the star sits at an angle to the "hinge." This is what using the issued badge case does.

I browsed ebay for a replica Harry Callahan badge and ID card.I saw 3 different sellers who make the prop and one in the UK.All of them were not accurate.

For starters: Dirty Harry was released in 1971 and the character "Harry Callahan" was a seasoned veteran police inspector. An ID with a younger "rookie" image such as that of the early rawhide days would be more accurate.,although would not match the scenes from the movie.

The badge I saw on ebay was accurate, except for the blue paint on the badges inner engraving. In the original Dirty Harry, clearly the badge has a flat black inlay of paint.Blue could have easily been swapped for black, right!?

- just looking for an authentic replication:)

This may be an older replica prop ID card and not accurate to the movies portrayal, but the more youthfull appearance of "harry Callahan" as a rookie, and not yet the seasoned inspector is and should be more accuarate.Very, very nice!
