Dirty Harry props

Here's some stuff I made.
Not awesome, someone with way better graphic skills and better programs could do better. The picture is the closest thing I could come up with compared to the screen grabs.

very nice my friend very nice(y)thumbsup
look great, your Magnum 44 is beautiful

Indeed!

Is the Magnum real, or an airsoft/replica? Also, where did you obtain your wallet/badge holder?

It's a little ironic, I had planned on starting a thread about his ID, wallet, & badge after I became a little more "established" here to ask these sort of questions. So I must ask thank Caplan for kicking off this thread!

Thank you my friend, and welcome to pages 2

is a pleasure for me

bests

Caplan

ps: for the Magnum 44 of the DBuck, for me it is the real weapon.

It's real. I've had it for about 25 years. And the badge was a gift to me from a San Francisco policeman.

I'd be interested in a screen accurate badge if someone could PM me. I'm a police officer in Canada and huge Eastwood/Harry fan....Thanks.

For years I've searched high and low for a screen-accurate replica of Harry's badge, and have never seen one. I do not believe that one has ever been made commercially available. There are a variety of replicas, but none is accurate to the badge we see on the screen. Some look more like real SFPD stars than the one in the film. The one in the film looks to me as if it was cut from relatively thin sheet metal and then either painted or stamped with ink to create the pattern and text. The face of the badge looks smooth and flat, unlike an actual badge with raised and/or lowered patterns in the metal.

Those thin badges were popular in that era. They were available to us as an alternative to the thick badges which created an REALLY thick wallet / badge case in your pocket. They were made of photoetched brass which was enameled and then clearcoated. The concept was to give you an off duty/non uniform badge that was thin and light. They never caught on, they looked too phoney. They are still available but I know of nobody who actually uses one.

The .44 magnum shown in my display is a screen used, screen seen all rubber stunt gun. It is the one from Magnum Force. Working as a cop in SF allowed me access to alot of SFPD props, and the sgt. who was the liaison to the movie industry is a good friend. He got me most of the ID cards and the I&J made star is from one of the DH movies. I was actually on set, in uniform, for the original DH (now you can figure out that I'm an OG).

One comment on Eastwood... GOOD GUY. He showed up on set driving his personal, beatup pickup truck. Down to earth, unpretentious, talked to all of the cops working the set, smiled alot. Some kids poked their faces into a scene and they had to call cut...I suspect many of today's actors would become hysterical but Eastwood just laughed it off and waved at the kids.

Thanks, eltee! I'm delighted to know this!

On the "thin profile" badge, were all of the borders around the text and pattern photoetched? It's hard to see the etching in the screenshot, although the new information from you makes me think that if you drew your thumb gently across the face of the star you would feel the slight indentations of the etching.

Was Harry's screen-seen badge, in fact, authentic?

And are you able to tell us the thickness of the brass used for these "thin profile" stars?

It's funny that they never caught on because they "looked too phoney." :lol

Thank you very much, as always, for the inside view! :love :thumbsup

Yes, all the detail was etched and you could feel it. I have one of the actual movie prop thin badges (not Harry's, a background actor) and I'll see if I can dig it up and post pics.

The $30.00 DH replicas you can buy online or in catalogs are not very close. They appear to use silkscreen or masked surface applied paint. The thin ones in DH are closer in design to the real dept. issued stars (fonts, decorative detail, etc.).

Wow... a lot more information than I was expecting. Can any of you experts here recommend a place to buy a accurate (close) wallet online to the one Harry uses?
