Dirt/sand/whatever Thread

I was chatting with Indytaz tonight and we were discussing having a collection of bits of dirt or sand from various movie locations around the world. We thought it could be kind of cool to have a sort of 'exchange' thing in place where anyone who can offer something from a movie location (free of course) sends small bits of that to other who have in turn offered something else.

Might get confusing to organize this, but it could be pretty interesting to see what we could exchange with eachother...

The easiest thing for me to offer up is dirt from Smallville (from Superman 3 where Richard Pryor gives Superman the kryptonite medal). Kinda lame yes..but its a start? I would suggest any offerings have pictures from the movie and a pic of the "dirt retrieval" for some form of authenticity..

Anyone wanna add to this or have any ideas?? We can start a list and at some point we cut it off and anyone who can contribute will send a package to anyone else on the same list also contributing. It would probably be best to leave any money for shipping out of it and assume if you are paying to ship yours to someone else then everyone else has paid to ship theirs to you and everyone else..

Worth trying out????

Great minds think alike LOL

Ok...so who can provide some dirt/sand or a pice of a movie set or prop? I'm in, hankey is in.

Regards
TAZ

I would be in for sure, but nothing happens here in WA, let alone a good movie/TV show being filmed here. :lol

I live across the street from the bar that The Drew Carey show was filmed in, I can take some pebbles or some siding or something I guess. :lol

I could take some earth from the sets of "the last man on earth", "Equilibrium", "Mission Impossible-3", "Hudson Hawk" and "Titus"... All shoot in Rome... But I would avoid that, isn't properly "igienic"! But I could take some pics instead!:D

Its against the law to import dirt from a foriegn country, into the US.
On the same note:
I have these large, clear plastic jars filled with water and sand from the Atlantic, Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Oman and The Caspian Sea. But I had to kill everything in the sand and water and replace some if not all of the water in order to do so.

Next time I'm in Cardiff I can try and steal a bit of the Torchwood HQ :lol Joking aside this is a great idea :thumbsup

There's a scene near the start of 'Saving Private Ryan' where the soldiers are fortifying their position, and Tom Sizemore's character is seen scooping a little bit of sand / dirt from the ground and putting it in a tobacco tin, and the lid is labeled 'France'. In his bag you can see other tins that show the other countries he's collected a little piece of. I thought this was a cool idea, but it's illegal to do so in almost every country in the world these days. Unless you can do this on a local level, you might be better off making props of it instead. That's no where near as much fun as having the real thing, but it's better than getting sent to court over it :lol

dear science, I didn't even notice!

I was going thru threads via search terms, and I guess this one came up and I couldn't help but add my 2 cents. I'll be much more careful next time haha :lol

^ 4 year old thread bump? What's the record on a necropost? :lol
