Die Hard Trilogy Props

As far as the walkie-talkies go, in the first film, they were using Kenwood TH-41 amateur radio UHF handhelds (440-450Mhz, not 27Mhz CB). One of them I'm almost 100% certain is a TH-41BT model, which is rather hard to find. And I think it uses the extended battery. I think some of them were TH-41AT models, which are usually a little easier to find. The BT series has a number of small DIP switches at the lower corner of the front that the AT series doesn't have. There is a shot of one of them on a desk that is definitely the BT, but I think some of the others were ATs, as I said above. However, I've not seen any on ebay lately. I'm collecting communications devices seen in movies (Trek comm, Ghostbusters radio, Galactica phones, etc.), so I'm watching out for a number of things. At the Dayton Hamvention this year I didn't see a single Kenwood TH series radio for sale (I guess that means they're all hard to find). Anyway, if they did indeed use AT models, you might just get the TH-21AT VHF model and substitute the UHF antenna, if you can find it. Those handhelds used a non-standard antenna connector; most amateur handhelds of the day used a BNC connector, the little Kenwoods used something else. The Kenwood TH series was sold around the time I got into amateur radio in 1986, and were sold for at least a couple years after that. I used to have the manufacturer brochures on the series, but apparently tossed them out some years ago. Googling doesn't turn up much, and I don't think there was much, if any, info on Kenwood's website. That's about all I can remember, I'd need to check my notes.

BTW, the keypad on those models was strictly for transmitting touchtones; it did nothing for frequency selection. The frequency was set from a set of thumbwheels on top of the radio.

I'm pretty sure at least some of the radios in DH2 were also Kenwoods, but a newer model.

Mind you, I've only seen the first 8 minutes, but in the first 8 minutes posted on yahoo he's using a sig 226 with a railed frame, not a PX4.
He's actually using a P220R. The armorer ordered six for the production. But yes, the Beretta used later on is the Px4 Storm.

Did a little poking around at lunchtime. Here is a pic of the DH1 walkie-talkie: http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/th21btlrg.jpg More info at http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/th21bt.html

I'm pretty sure they used the high-capacity battery (model PB-21H according to the manual I downloaded at http://www.kenwoodusa.com/support/simple.aspx?men=2&M2=71&M3=130 - choose "TH-41BT" on the drop down menu). The battery was L-shaped and added a half-inch or so to the bottom of the radio. The pic above shows the VHF antenna, the movie used the short UHF antennas.

If you get some of these, please don't transmit with them unless you're licensed for amateur radio service.

. ...At the Dayton Hamvention this year...

Jim

You are a fountain of walkie-Talkie Knowledge, Capt. Thanks for the info.
I must admit I stopped reading for a minute at the statement above.
I have been to Star Wars conventions, Star Trek convention, comic conventions, even a porn convention, but never in all my years have I heard of the "hamvention" how sweet is that name! Glad there is a "vention" for all, even those Ham radio folks!

Anyone know the cell phone models they use in Die Hard 4? There's one I'm particularly interested in, which is the clamshell type and has a little 'box', you could say that is attached to the hinge, which folds to the back of the phone when opened (I hope I'm making sense).

McClane uses one, and I think a few other people do (like the main terrorist), I'm not sure (I've only seen the film once, but I'll be seeing it again on Monday).

I know one of the phones they use in the film, which is the Nokia 9300, but that's not the one I'm talking about.

Hmm..

No idea i'm afraid..

Iv'e seen it a fair few times now, But i'm not good with Mobile Phones. I can't even remember what make and model mine is, to be honest.

Thanks for the comments on my website to all who did - Glad you like it.

Bowman's card. It's cut off some of it, but it's something to work with.

:) I am DH fans too! And how about McClane's boots in DH-series... :rolleyes

Especially he wears in the 4.0, Does anyone can ID it? :)

Thats a cool still of the phone/business card. May i ask where you found it?

Simon

I found it the other day while Google searching for all the Nokia phones used in the film. Someone posted that picture in another forum (a phone forum, I assume), because that's a Nokia phone. Bonus that is a shot of Bowman's card.

I don't suppose anybody here knows much about Shoulder Holsters do they?

I'm trying to pin down the holster used by McClane in Die Hard With A Vengeance.

Galco seem to think it is a Standard Galco Miami Classic in left handed variation, But the straps on the Miami classic are much thinner than the screenworn one and the black section where the leather parts meet on McClanes back is different.

Any idea's?

Thanks,

Simon

I was just thinking about his last night and researched it.They are not Galco, but rather Gould & Goodrich, left handed holster.
I also am having a guy make the badge he wore around his neck for me.

Here is the exact holster he used in DH3

Galco makes the Miami Classic which has the thin straps and they also make one with the fatter, more supportive straps called the ******* rig, which was the original name for Galco. The Miami Classic was made famous by Don Johnson in Miami Vice and Nash Bridges. The Miami was never worn by Bruce Willis in the Die Hard films. He only used the *******.

The holster worn in Die Hard definately wasn't the Gould and Goodrich one.

Their are a number of differences between that one, and the one worn by McClane in the film.

1 - The Magazine holder on the G&G only has one snap button, McClanes has two.

2 - The centerpiece where the leather sections meet at the back of McClanes neck are different. On the one in the film (and on the Galco) that section is black. On the G&G one, the section is brown, with four black connectors.

The rig IMO, Is definately a Galco holster in left handed formation. It looks similar to the *******, But i'm not convinced it is that model either. For the simple reason that the section which sits behind McClanes neck is different. (See pictures)

It looks to me like a Galco custom job, In that the gun holster, magazine holder is the same as the Miami Classic, but the straps/holster appears to be different to anything i have seen offered on the market.

I think you are right, it looks like they took a G&G and a Galco and mixed them together.

Using this holster, clip holder, back plate and back straps...

But maybe incorporating these fron straps for comfort...

A friend of mine called up Galco today and spoke to one of the employees there.

It turns out that the holster used by McClane was indeed a Standard Miami Classic in left hand formation, But the 'Thicker Comfort' straps were added instead of the standard straps. The 'Thicker Comfort' straps used in the film (with the 'one piece' behind McClanes neck) have been discontinued and are no longer made by Galco unfortunately. The ones they do now look different.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but I came across it researching this topic about the holster used in the Die Hard series.

Galco still does make the thicker shoulder straps as I just put a order in for some here
Galco SSH Harness For Shoulder System Ambidextrous - Tan SSH / Black SSHB FREE S&H SSH, SSHB. Galco SSH Holster Accessories, Galco Holster Accessories.

(Notice it says "wide comfort straps" in description.)

I actually bought the original Miami Classic from them to, but the holster doesn't have the stitching around the part that holds the gun like seen here
Image:LFDH-SIGP220R-1.jpg - imfdb :. guns in movies :. movie guns :. the internet movie firearms database

Which is really a bummer because I wanted that stitching.

Now the holster seen here
CopsPlus.com: Gould and Goodrich Gold Line Leather Shoulder Holster Model 804

I'm not sure if it has the stitching or not as the picture is not good enough.
