Diamond Select Tricorder - sound board info

My friend pulled his DST tricorder apart to fix something on it.

Long story short, he discovered that the circuit board has ALL THREE TRICORDER SOUNDS on it - MEDICAL, SCIENCE and GEOLOGICAL.

He is a whiz at electronics and was able to get it to play sounds for all of them -- the GEOLOGICAL TRICORDER, should they ever make it, will have soundclips that are the library computer talking -- he told me all the phrases but I didn't write them down, but it was stuff like "LIBRABRY COMPUTER, WORKING." and other computer phrases likely uttered by Majel Barret Roddenberry as she was the voice of the original series computer.

The Geological tric also made beeping noise and regular scan noise.

My friend said circuit sound board was labeled (MEDICAL, SCIENCE and GEOLOGOICAL) so maybe one of you guys can check this out too.

That's cool, I'd rather have sounds like that instead of Spock talking. I just picked up one at the local TRU last weekend.

Sorry if this seems like a hijack...

If your friend is a wiz at electronics, can he tell me how to adjust the speed of the playback? One of my science tricorders sounds fine - Nimoy's pitch sounds normal - but the other one is chipmunk city - way too fast.

Thanks for any insight on this!

Ohh, cool, Ted. Sure would love to hear the geo tric sounds.

Have you tried fresh batteries?

He's good, but not that good.

hmm. It seems to me if there is just a jumper thing like on the DST Comm, one could theoretically wire the paired contacts together on a 3 switch like the Try Off Play thing. You could probably just use the one thats already there and just switch some stuff around, assuming you want it always on play. You could just run the wires from the board down to the Switch or however its done. I am waiting to see about the Metal upgrade parts before I think about taking it apart. My Electronics knowledge is small but growing. just a thought.

Exactly.
If it's just jumpers, then a multi position switch should be able to handle it.
Hopefully just one switch. But may need a simple matrix.

Have to see the board and jumpers to determine exactly what is needed.

Shall I attempt to tear my tricorder apart and take pictures of the exposed board? I grow bored with mine since I compare it to the MR version every time I try to film it for my review.

Did you really just ask that? :lol

Doh. Well, it doesnt look all that hard.I would assume start with the side covers since they are supposed to come off to adjust the straps. Might be worth joining TPZ, as there may be a metal accurazation kit coming for this one there.

Yes, please do the autopsy and post pix of the soundboard.
