Hi all, this is a bit of progress on one of my current projects - the Diablos Spear from the video game Monster Hunter. I've been poking at it off and on since October and while it isn't a quick build, it's certainly something I'm proud of (so far). This will be the weapon to my girlfriend's armor set, afterwards making myself something special.

Started off as a large number of decreasing diameter foam circles, glued together, then carved in two pieces on a lathe.

The bottom of the lance needed a counterweight so that she can carry it with minimal effort. Lathed from laminated poplar boards.

The basic shape of the lance carved out by hand. Altogether it stands at 8.5' in height!

This was my first fiberglassing project. I was a bit worried that the resin would add a ton of weight, but it only added about 2lbs to the whole thing.

Trying out a different air dry clay stuff. I've been using Apoxy Sculpt for about a year, and while I like it alot, I thought it would ultimately be too heavy for what I wanted to do. Saw that Smooth-On has this stuff called Free Form Air, which is about 1/4 the weight and nearly as strong as Apoxy Sculpt and figured I would give it a try. The red paint is just a primer test.

That's about where I am now, haven't touched it in a week or so, but the next step is to see how well Free Form Air sands and paints. So far the lance weighs 6.5lbs.
