Dethaniel's Borderlands Prop Series

Any preference in modeling software? lots of people use blender because its free. I use solidworks because I need it for work and I'm more versed in solid modeling while blender is more of sculpting, and I much prefer the dimension aspects of modeling.

Solidworks is the program I have experience with. We use it at the shop I work at, for of all our drawings. It has been some time, though, since I was in the office instead of running the show on the floor.

Thanks GasMaskSaxon, means a lot. All of the guns and parts were modeled by myself in SolidWorks.

Wow, really? Really incredible work in that case. I know it's a bit cheeky to ask after you've put all that work in, but are you ever planning on sharing the files? I'd completely understand if not, but I'd really love a couple of these for myself!

Thank you! I'm sorry, though, because I will not be releasing these models. It usually had to do with ownership claims, difficulties for other users to reproduce and assemble, tolerances built for my machine, I want to attempt to mold some of these or sell 3d printed copies. I will tell you that these were the first full assemblies I made, and MAN! were they difficult to put together, so I'm still working on my assembly designing strategy.

Maliwan Hellfire (or something of the sort)

So, In the time where I felt the need to improve my CAD skills and take on a challenge, I decided to Start modeling up a Maliwan SMG. And let me tell you what, It sure as hell was not pleasant! I'll try to incorporate both types of ammunition mags into this build, but we'll see where that goes.

Using this image to convey that concept.

And this is where I managed to get last night. Details were easy, it was the form of the body that was a nightmare!!

My hopes are coming closer to having a Maliwan SMG

Decking this thing out as much as possible!!

Printing has started!
If you cannot tell in the main body section, I have modified a service hole into the center with a cover panel where the default magazine is usually inserted.

Update: 4/30/15

Smoothing... I am awful at it.

Well, as stated before, I am not exactly the best at smoothing my parts, but this I was able to get down to the polished surface I was looking for. Then suddenly, the paint started cracking at 75 degrees F and everything started going to hell :( I managed to recover as much as I could, but the finish did not turn out how I would have liked it to. At least the rubber grips turned out perfect (2 heavy coats of plastidip spray).

NEW UPDATES TO THE HELLFIRE, BACKPACK, BOOTS, AND DIGITIZER!!

I would like to say that the Hellfire is coming along nicely, but not to my expectations and that is only because of the paint job. I will be breaking the model down in a different fashion coming up in my second series where the design will be derived from the actual Maliwan specification. It is stated that the gun is composed of complex paneling, which is apparent from the detailed grooves. From there, I will break the model down into every single panel (also makes it easier to paint by piece rather than assembly) and mount all of them to a skeleton. Overall will also make the final product that much more easy to mold. and hey, maybe someone would like the interchangeable panel feature.
