Starting up a thread to document my (now complete!) detention block camera build. It's been a really long build, but I've learned a ton along the way.

This one started back in 2018 when I discovered that these were built from Paterson Trident slide viewer. I picked one up for a great price on Etsy and decided to mold and cast it.

My first mold completely failed because the silicone stuck to the glass lens (I had no idea silicone stuck to glass!), so the one pictured here is my second mold. I used rebound 25 and a fiberglass mother mold which worked quite well.

I ended up casting these as a single piece, but cast the lens portion in onyx so that it could just be polished up.

Picking the right color was a chore. I went through several options before landing on Humbrol 48 gloss enamel.

...to be continued!

Greeblies were next. I had the masters for the lens and base printed by shapeways and molded in silicone. The final lenses were cast in tinted acrylic, bases in resin and painted with Molotow.

The aluminum antennas were provided by rebelscum's recent run and look fantastic.

Regards

Martin

Here's the TV stand I used: Full-Motion Tilt Swivel Corner TV LCD LED Wall Mount 17 19 20 21 22 23 24 26 27" | eBay

The antennas came from this run - I'm not sure whether there are any leftovers, though: Limited Run - Detention Block Camera Parts

The STL files for the light lenses and bases are available on my Etsy store if you're interested in printing them yourself: Detention Block Camera Light 3D Print Files | Etsy
