Destiny Titan - FOAM build

such great hype during its release
shame about the game itself
still love the designs though!

anyways.... hunters and warlocks seem to get all the costuming loving, so I thought I would tackle the Titan.

I based it on the high res pics released by Bungie - so its a little low on customisation

based on Elusch pep, I converted the dome for foam, and scratch built the rest of the helmet

- - - Updated - - -

caulk sealing

primer

paint

lens fitted (cut from a motorcycle visor)

- - - Updated - - -

templating from ref pics

offered up to helmet and my own chest to scale

side straps built

backpack

shoulder parts

gaunts took a bit of tweaking

painting

leg parts being built

shins built around a base boot

test fit

still needed a weapon....

based my build on this

templating and scaling

detailing

prime

and paint

final fit

did a small troop recently to field test it.... unfortunately this is the only pic I have of it! But worked well. No pieces fell off and surprisingly quite well recognised!

Hey, for your helmet, you did some caulk sealing. Can you just explain the process for me and the materials you used? thanks.

its decorator's caulk you get in any DIY store. Not the silicone stuff. literally cheap decorator's caulk.

its basically putty. Its also smoothable with water. Thin layers, multiple times allowing each layer to dry before moving on. I basically use it like a filler eg seam line or any other place a sag happens. Once fully dried, you can prime and paint on it

Thanks Heatshock. I'm just new to this whole pep/foam suit building and have been trying different things. So it's good to get some other options for creating a smoother appearance when building helmets out of foam. Can you sand it after it dries? Or does it react the same way as the silicone where it starts to peel up if you sand it?

there are lots of ways to do the sanding.
(1) PVA+ water coat the whole thing - it impregnates the foam and makes it easier to sand
(2) the caulk method - you can sand, but you dont make great inroads. The effect I achieved on the dome on the TItan helmet was purely from hand smoothing with water, very much like in clay sculpting. No sanding required. But remember, less is more. Thin layers often is much better than loads at the beginning
