Hello again and welcome to my newest cosplay build a Hunter character from the new game Destiny. For those of you that aren't familiar with the game here are some of the reference images I am working from.

A hunter in the game is a stealthy sniper class that uses agility instead of brute force. There are lots of different masks that he can acquire throughout the game I am just picking a single style this time. By having this base I will be able to recreate multiple versions without altering it to much. I will also be constructing the exotic helmet The Mask of the Third Man (the one with the 3 glowing eyes)

To start off I decided that I would have to sculpt this mask out of monster clay and make a junk mold so that I could refine and add all of the detail to a resin copy.

The "vents" on the sides of his face were a little to perfect to sculpt out of the clay. So I made one out of eva and craft foam then molded and resin cast that so they would be symmetrical.

From here I did a rough sculpt so that I could see where everything was going to go.

Once I had it close I made a junk mold to get my resin copy

So with my resin copy I can now start to refine and add all of the details. The copy is primed and sanded multiple times to start to define the shapes. After the sanding is done styrene is used to start making the details around the goggles and the side straps. The styrene is templates from bits of craft foam so that I know it will fit before I cut it out. The styrene is then heated using a heat gun and formed into place.

Additional details are added to the Destiny hunter straps using thinner gauge styrene and glued into place. The top crown was made by first cutting and heat forming styrene into the desired shape. This form was then glued to the top of the mask and filled with bondo. By using the styrene as a wall it made sure that the bondo was at the desired thickness. The bondo was then sanded and filled with putty to get a smooth surface. The details were cut out of the bondo using a dremel.

The chin piece and half circles are cut out of a thicker gauge styrene and shaped using a sanding drum on my dremel. The hood in the picture is not the final version I occasionally pick up random curtains from my job that are discontinued. I just felt that it needed something to show more of his in game look..

Instead of making a full helmet I am only making a mask since the character wears a hooded cape. This way it will cut down on material being used and should be considerable more confortable to wear in warm weather.

The eye slit on the Destiny Hunter was cutout using a dremel and cleaned up with various sized files. I took the prototype up to midnight release of Halo just to see what some of the Bungie fans thought about it. The response I got so far was great.

AARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!! The feeling I get when I think I am close to molding a piece and I find some new reference images that change my design

I had to go in and cut out the resperators on the sides because I found out they round back more and there is a detail clasp on the end piece. So I broke out the dremel, styrene, and bondo and rebuilt the backside of the mask. Now that it is complete I will say that I do like the overall look better
I have a few more details to knock out and hopefully I should be able to mold this next week.

Update on the hunter mask. After multiple layers of bondo, primer, and glaze its getting very close to the molding stage. The colors are all over the place so I grey scaled the photo so that it wouldn't be so distracting.

My Destiny Hunter mask is now primed filled and ready for molding. I hope to mold it sometime late this week and have a cast to paint early next week.
