Desperate - Polyurethane Rubber Help

Hey guys, so I'm trying to make a mr incredible chest emblem a la superman returns and a belt to go with it. I've been told standard polyurethane isn't flexible enough for a belt but polyurethane rubber would be. Now, here's the problem, before I buy some, does it dry clear? If so, how do I go about making it opaque and coloured ie orange or black or yellow? Can anyone please help as I'm a real newbie to this!

Many thanks,
Andrew

You will certainly get some good help here. While waiting for replies, check out Matt Munson's blog. A couple of years ago he was working on Superman chest emblems and belts, using various techniques and materials. Not unlike what you want to do: The Project Workbench

I am working on a sequel to a major film from last year (hungry any one?) and I have been casting allot of smooth cast 45 D It comes out very flexible and stays that way. it is a clear amber when cast, but you could use urethane tints and it would look great I think.

I hope this helps.

Matt

Polyurethane comes in different densities and in clear, translucent and opaque. Most of them are as Matt has. Translucent amber but can easily be tinted.

Oh thank god for replies, had so little luck elsewhere!

I've been looking on ebay you see but i'm not "up" on the types that there are. So 45D is a good one? Is smooth cast a brand name? I'm not sure we can get smoothcast over here, is the 45D a reflection of the density or fluidity? There is polytek flex 20-100 on ebay, is this a similar thing?

As i say i want it to be coloured and opaque, would i need to add white and the colour tint that i want as well to get this effect?

Your continued advice is HUGELY appreciated!
