Denix LeMat Firefly conversion?

Greetings.

I've recently acquired a Denix LeMat (which are apparently shipping again!), and am pondering the practicality of trying to modify it for Jayne's gun boo.

I have very little experience working with metal, and I know I've seen people who've done similar, so I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction as to who may offer parts to help me on my way.

Alternatively, without extensive metalwork, how would one go about trying to add to the pistol?

Right now I'm open to suggestions, as this is a project I won't be starting work on for a while yet.

I don't think its possible to make a Denix LeMat look like Jayne's gun "Boo" without a lot of work, but it can be done by combining one of the resin kits out there with the Denix.
You will need a hand hacksaw and files at a minimum.

If you look at the dissassembled one in the pic above, and compare it to your unmodified LeMat, you'll see what needs to be removed from the stock Denix to make Boo.
I made the pic below for a friend who was considering combining a resin Boo with a Denix LeMat.
You would need to be able to drill and tap the Denix to bolt the resin pieces on, or if the gun is for display and light handling, epoxy might be adequate.
I have the triggerguard listed as metal,
(my friend's situation)
but you could use the resin triggerguard.

Hope this helps.

To be honest, it's not that difficult to do compared to other conversions out there. Since Denix had their fire, it was very difficult to get a LeMat replica. Since you were able to get your hands on one, the tough part is over.

A hacksaw, dremel, drill, tap/die set, files, sandpaper, screwdriver(s), and some miscellaneous nuts/bolts/screws... you should have this put together in no time.

I tried doing mine when a lot of the kits were still in production and I had to track down actual LeMat Cavalry parts (such as the triggerguard and lanyard) to put on to my Denix Lemat. I used Sidewinder's parts (nice stuff!) for the rest of the conversion. My overall results didn't turn out that well - I rushed it (I put it on the 'to do' list but I haven't gotten around to full completion yet).

Get a kit, take it slow. Potmetal can be a pain to work with but again, this conversion is not that difficult. Good project if you haven't done many.
