Dengar help

Hello all,

I´m planning on making a life-sized Dengar. At home I have an FX stormie I´m not using and thought I could use the armor parts on my Dengar project. Should I do that or should I use AP or TE parts for this project?

Has anyone made a Dengar face sculpt/cast?

Comments most welcome.

Thanks for looking.

I used an FX kit for my dengar.

I bought a set of "Dengar" armor from someone a few years ago. Not sure the origin of the Stormtrooper parts, but the Snowtrooper chest I believe originally came from Universal Armor. At least that's what I'm told. It wouldn't have been that good for a Snowtrooper, but painted and greeblied up, it's fine for Dengar. I tossed the knee plates that came with it and cut my own buck from wood and vacuformed a set.

I made it as a wearable suit, but I have a mannequin for it that I added a scar to using scuplty and paint. I recently put a hood and head wrappings on a Patrick Stewart head I had so it could go with Fett, IG-88, Zuckuss and 4-LOM heads/helmets/masks I displayed. It looked pretty good!

I'd love to see a pic of that!

Hoping to have a similar bounty hunter collection at some point, including getting one of your IG-88 heads. Well, the Fett will be a full body, but the rest would be heads / busts.

Dengars armour consists of a couple of suits, Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper and Sandtrooper aswell as a few extra greeblies and extras :)

Seeing Patrick Stewart's head wrapped in rags reminds me of a story he told about appearing on Broadway in A Christmas Carol years back on Late Night with Conan O'Brian

He said when getting dressed to play Scrooge he wrapped little bits of fabric around each of his toes, claiming "No one wore socks back then, they kept their feet warm by wearing these toe rags."

To which Conan replied: "Toe Rag!?!? Isn't that VW's new SUV?

It's actually a Patrick Stewart head that I picked up on eBay a couple years ago.

i´d say give it a try with the parts you already have, you can still update the costume later...

Skaught - What have you used as the eyes on your 4-Lom head?

It came painted that way. I'd like to repaint it to look a bit more dimensional. Right now the colors are just painted on there freehand it appears.

I'm in the process of cutting out the eyes on the Zuckuss mask, too. I have plastic pieces that will fit inside and then I'll glue in some bubble wrap, somehow. Talk about bad visibility, though!

Argh!
Action-figure misunderstanding alert :)

4-LOM is the droid to my mind, and Zuckuss is the Gand ;)

Surely you don't look through the eyes, though? Are there not eyeholes somewhere else?

No, even if they were clear you would only be able to see out sideways through the eyes. You have to look out (and breathe through) the center hole, which will have screen put across it. Even then, you'll have to turn a bit to see straight out. Walking around will be interesting.

Yeah, just need Bossk to complete the set! I've been thinking about trying my hand at sculpting. Seems like a fun and not TOO hard to do, out of all the masks you could sculpt.

The real 4-Lom head has holes in the middle and in part of the "mechanics". The Zuckuss was similar, but then again, their only part in ESB was to stand there and look pretty.

Here you go:

That is awesome. I like the Bounty Hunter Collection, there Skaught! Definitely liking the Zuckuss mask, there.... kind of envious of your collection.

I always wanted to do some sort of costume mannequinne displays, myself.

I may still do that with the TIE PILOT, OFFICER, Storm Commando, as I get them finished (or retired). The Mandalorian has really been taking up all of my time and focus.

I did some research for Dengar, years ago, when there was a local guy who was interested in doing the costume. Unfortunately, I lost touch with the guy. And it is true that Dengar was a conglomeration of various different types of armor. Like mentioned there is the Snowtrooper chest, the Sandtrooper ab, knee plate, and cod pieces. The thigh pieces were Storm Trooper, as well as the shoulder bells (I think).

I'm not too sure about the forearms and lower legs - and I heard that they actually used the Boba Fett back plate for Dengar. But again, I am not all that sure about that one. Obviously, the Dengar costumers would know better than I.

Now, I have seen kits where Dengar armor makers produce a head cap for your mellon, to ensure the proper shape of the head wraps. I don't know how accurate that is, but I thought it worth mentioning, as this is the place to disect such information and get down to what is fact and what is fiction.
