Been working on two practice helmets.

Nothing special about them (and not as good as what Keith does) but I've tried experimenting different paint technics on them.

The first one is almost finished, it's an ABS helmet TE with styrene ear caps, leftovers from another helmet .

First thing I did was to apply the decals (from Jeesycreesy) on the raw ABS and applied liquid mask on them.

I completely hand painted the helmet using gloss white dulux paint (acrylic) directly on the raw ABS
(I didn't use any primer). ( humbrol enamels for the details)

I applied several very thin coats of white paint with a very good brush.

Using my fingernail I scratched the paint in a few spots, to get a minor chipped/ weathered effect and painted the kahki HDPE color.

Still need to paint the hovi mic tips and the brow is just a stand in.

The other one is a CO with ABS earcaps .
Not the best helmet(fiberglass) but one of the first that was made available.

This one is spray painted, I primered the entire helmet with a kahki color, applied maskol, and then spray painted the whole thing using two cans of paint. Still needs a lot of work.(decals from trooperdecals)

More to come.

And here is a group shot of almost all my helmets (also have a GF not pictured).

Nice. I'm working on a pair of TE2's right now, one as a sandtrooper helmet (layering paint & doing chips) and the other as an ANH stunt with a "as first built" paint job with no chips. Yes, I know, but it's for my son's fifth b-day and he specifically mentioned not wanting chips. :p

:eek

Holy @#$%. HDPE you hate a bucket or two :p . I thought I was doing well with seven.

ESB is coming on great I love the ESB look :thumbsup

Keep up the good work and keep us updated. Trooper bucket show off threads are always much appreciated.

Cheers Chris.

great helmets and a great collection, once you own a trooper lid the collection just keeps going, and going, I though I had a lot of trooper helmets, as I own 8 at the moment

Thanks Chris, ESB are my favorite. I think those two helmets are not the best but.....they are good for practice.

In fact I'd love to see everyone's collection. :)

Thanks for the kind words.

Cheers.

That's quite a collection. I have three TK buckets, ANH Sandtrooper, ANH Stormtrooper, and ESB Stormtrooper. All of which are TEs.

Nice work.
I love everyone's "show off threads" here at the RPF.

I appreciate the concern that everyone has with "chips" also. My MAIN concern with them is if they are Sour Cream & Onion, or not. :p
Seriously, thanks for sharing.

Great work bud.

Love the shot of all your helmets.

Here is my best attempt so far my old TE Sandy smooth cap which I sold like an idiot.

Grrrr...now I can't wait to get started on my helmets. I plan on doing one clean ESB version in ABS, an ESB with the simulated HDPE effect, and an ANH stunt for my brother. Very inspiring work guys.

Wow, lots of helmets. There are so many different ways to finish each version that you can end up owning dozens of them.

I've just finished assembling three more trooper helmets myself, but i won't have the time to paint them for a while.

Keith.

Cheers Keith,

I'd love to add to my collection that absolutely awesome ROTJ helmet (with normal ears) you did recently, the best conversion I've ever seen :thumbsup

A few new pics of the completely hand-painted helmet, I'm still waiting for accurate brow and neck trim.

Here's the helmet I was trying to match, I hope the new brow trim will help achieving the look.
