Great designs I love them , totally unique and i can see the likeness to power tools in there, man i could use a few of those in my work! The arc guns angles reminds me a little of the AR1 from Alien ressurection for some reason. Thanks for posting the pics guys :thumbsup

Nice sketch! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one still using pen and marker!!

How about a pistol version of that rifle? I can see how that grip can be reconfigured. Single canister instead of 2.

i have sent an email to Weta with no reply, but I've read here that it doesn't look likely

but with the popularity of the movie exceeding all expectations who knows?

I attempted the gun Wikus used on the gangsters. I had to make a few things up because I don't have any pics of certain areas. The drawing looked to plain so I added a few greeblies to make it similar to the Arc Gun.

While not accurate, it will pass the time until more reference is discovered.

The next concept art to be made public will be through UK magazines ImagineFX (a concept art magazine) and sister mag, 3D World.
ImagineFX will feature several pieces from myself, Leri greer and David Meng and hopefully reveal a little of the design process and thinking behind the film.
3D World are doing a feature with Embassy VFX and Weta Digital about their build of the D9 Dropship which will feature my original concept pieces.

I would imagine the size of these things would make them pretty difficult for anyone to do as a cost-effective replica. Anyone know what the ebay replica was made of?

They were made from bubble gum and snot. :lol

It’s made from CC60 urethane with high density foam HDR 400 for the filler. It also has a mild steel internal armature for support. It's actually pretty heavy and feels like hard plastic not resin if that makes any sense.

Thanks! Still trying to find better images but none are out there yet.

In the mean time, here's my own version of the guns. This is a smaller assault style. I took many styling cues from the original designs which of course were done by Greg Broadmore at Weta Workshops.

I just got the new Cinefex #119 and there's a good article on District 9.

There's a small photo on pg.25 of someone painting the AMB-B5. It's Black and orange rather than White and Orange and shows a little part of the blueprints to make it.

First-time features director Neil Blomkamp combines alien visitation with the gritty realities of poverty, racism and life in a Third World ghetto, for District 9, a science-fiction film about downtrodden extraterrestrials living in slums on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Backed by producer Peter Jackson, Blomkamp called upon Weta Workshop for conceptual designs, while Image Engine and The Embassy generated the insect-like aliens, mothership and alien hardware.
