Defined Green Lantern Comic Rings

Wellllll, mistakes were made. I ordered Black and White rings to complete my personal collection but there were a few snags.

For one thing I tried a more affordable polishing process that left the symbol faces looking funky. Second I altered the models for printing stability, and I didn't realize how much larger the bezels would wind up. Now I need to order new printouts AND figure out what to do with these two...

That must be irritating!
Very -_- In the meantime I'm also looking for ways to color the metal. I can get them anodized, but that doesn't work for red, orange or black, and it only works on titanium. At least that's what my anodizing guy can do.

This is something I’ve been fretting over since Day One. Getting a nice, accurate, durable color for the metal is tricky business. This is why so many replicas are just plain metal with a color inlay around the symbol.

Yes. Absolutely. I've found someone who can anodize all the colors except red, orange and black. I've been looking into anodizing plus dyeing, and may even attempt it myself at some point. I've tinkered with an at home electroplating process, basically using scrap and junk. I got *some* results. They weren't pretty but the process did actually work.

Who did you use for the printing?

Also a friend of mine offered to let me use his laser engraver to try and smooth out the symbols on the Black and White Rings. I'm willing to give it a shot. What's there to lose?

Interesting that the live-action rings have consistently used the Grell design as their basis.

Just got this pic from my anodizing guy. These are for a customer, and the first time I've sold a non-Green ring too! Still can't get re, orange or black done but I may have a method for doing those colors within the next few months, if all goes well.

Whike I never owned the Planet Srypton set, the designs look pretty on-point. And I suspect that the Jordan and Rayner rings in that set served as the models for Van Sciver's REBIRTH artwork.

Been a while since the last time I engaged here, and I've been quite busy. I've sold a bunch of custom rings over the past few months and some of the orders have presented new opportunities. I'm in touch with a very friendly anodizing service for titanium, and will soon be attempting to anodize and dye aluminum rings myself. In the meantime here are a few of the customs I've put out for commissions.

Excellent!

I've been busy on other projects, but keep meaning to get test prints of my current models.
