'Deep Rising' minigun? Who made them?

The minigun rifle from the film "Deep Rising" was made using a Calico 9mm carbine.

I can grab screen caps all day long, but I'm wondering if anyone has any good photos of the thing? I mean in a display setting, perhaps from a magazine or something?

Anyone know who actually made them?

Thanks in advance,

Russ

I can't offer you help but here's a suggestion, read the Credits and see who was the propmaster and try to get ahold of the Propgun builders through the studio (Unless of course someone already knows who the builder was!)...

These are the only pics I found:

This guy might even know who built those guns:

Ive handled those guns just a couple years ago. We had one at a SoCal prop party back in 2004 among other things.

That's awesome! Do you know who owned that one? You can PM me if you like.

Was it still functional, meaning, did the barrels still rotate and all that?

Those guns made a brief camo appearance in a 4th season episode of "Smallville" as some sort of futuristic taser. No barrel rotation sadly. :(

And although not the same scale, there was a 1:6 scale action figure put out in 2005/6 that had one of those!

Thanks again for sharing the pictures!!

I can think of three other films that they were in. "Future Sport", a bad Dean Cain movie. "Wrongfully Accused", starring Leslie Neilsen in a "Fugitive" parody. Finally, in a film I saw on the sci-fi channel named "Encrypt". Not bad for a movie on the sci-fi channel.

Too bad there isn't an airsoft of the Calico, there are a lot of sf weapons waiting to be replicated.

There was an airsoft calico, but it's the wrong version. :(

I still want to know what Toytec was smoking when they replicated the .22 caliber version, over the much better looking 9mm version...

:lol

Maybe they really, really liked "Spaceballs"? :lol

i believe the sight is an ADCO square dot sight.
they might have been sold under other names though.

I always wanted to make one of these guns myself. I have some fair resin castings of the Calico M950 but it is a solid one piece with the shorter magazine so it would look off for this item.

From the photos supplied by Robstyle, it looks like a bolt on clamshell style stock piece over the (for lack of a better term) MP5 style slither stock, palm swell and lower thumbhole bar.

Here's a photo of a similar one supplied by Foxtrot_Alpha on the scifimilitary.com forums.

The scope mount itself looks like one of two different "factory" mounts I've seen.

I'd REAL curious how they setup the motor to spin the minigun barrels, and where the motor was actually located.

Flagg, do you have any images of your resin version?

Re: 'Deep Rising' minigun? Any decent photos?

I believe that the barrels were air driven. If you look at Robstyle's photos, it looks like they used the stock rail to hide part of the air line to the barrels. It also looks like there are connectors in the stock pad. In one scene in "Future Sport", there is a tube hanging down from the rifle that looks like an air line. Also if the barrels are air driven, you don't have to worry about fitting motors in the front.

Here are a couple of untrimmed photos straight out of the mold. This is the best I have handy for photos...

Zombie post, back from the dead!

I'm wondering if anyone knows the name of the prop house in Vancouver that has one of the Deep Rising rifles in inventory?

The rifle had been seen in a season 3 or 4 episode of Smallville and was also used as set dressing in the pilot episode of Sanctuary on the scifi channel, both of which are filmed in Canada.

Any help appreciated.

Re: 'Deep Rising' minigun? Any decent photos?

Yeah, already checked that out (and added a couple notation changes. :) ).

Re: 'Deep Rising' minigun? Any decent photos?

Yep, read that. I'm going to try and get it on Netflix.

Still looking for other info on them.

I'm always amazed at how you can find some things so easy on the 'net and other times...

Google has come up dry for me.

Anyone have any ideas who manufactured the 4-8 replicas for the film, and what prop house now has them in inventory?

Thanks!

As near as I can tell every appearance of them was filmed in Canada, so it would seem that they were made, and now reside in a Canadian prop house.

I know what you mean about a lack of photos. The movie "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" had some great looking ray guns, but I have never seen them used in another production, and you can't find any photos of the pistols. It's funny the "Time Cop" guns keep showing up in other productions, but not the Pluto Nash guns.
