Deckard's Blaster

Thats a good questions. My bet is it went for above the estimated bid range.Like WAY Above.

I dunno... one of these days Paul Allen is gonna realize he's being taken advantage of. :)

I'll be very interested to learn if this particular lot fetched its rather steep asking price.

Which means that there had to have been two (or more) geeks with v e r y deep pockets that wanted that thing. Or one person wanted it really bad and another one rang it up just to be an ___hole (taking a risk that they would get stuck with the bill if the other guy backed out).

The other major bidder was a Japanese concern that had a representative here. He took lots of photographs and was going to try and recoup the cost by putting out the ultimate airsoft.

Hmm.

A propsummit member based in London reports that he was the other major bidder, and would have been able to bid higher if the auction had taken place a year ago when the exchange rate for the GBP was more favorable.

Can you tell us anything more about the major Japanese bidder?

I think the major Japanese bidder was probabaly the Tomenosuke guys. I think they also might have had some help with Elfin Knights guys too. Tomenosuke is a minor celebrity in Japan. He is a SF writer named Shinji Nakako, that also owns a huge toy store. They all flew in and took a bunch of pics of the gun and extras it came it a few days before the auction. They made one of the most incredible versions of the gun ever, all completely tooled from scratch.

It belongs in a musuem! :lol
Hope fully it will end up in the SciFi museum now (although if I was Paul Allen I would run around the house "retiring" the pets for a few days before I sent it off to the museum). After not being seen for so many years it will be nice to be able to go and see it in person.

That was my initial guess. I knew that at least three members of the Tomenosuke team had made the trip to inspect the Blaster, and that they had photographed it extensively. But I hadn't heard that they were a major bidder, or that their plan if they won was to recoup the costs by putting out the "ultimate" airsoft BR Blaster.

Thanks, Andy.

I am not sure it was them either. I also heard Elfin Knights went as well, but I do know that the Tomenosuke guys showed pictures of meeting they had with Marushin about the gun. It sounded like they may also had interest in making an airsoft version of their own. Tomenosuke mentioned they had other "investors" that may have also gone with them.

Right. I had forgotten about the Marushin meeting, but it makes sense that, if they were meeting with Marushin about the BR Blaster, there may have been some discussion at least about an "ultimate" airsoft version.

The fact that Tomenosuke didn't win the auction also doesn't preclude the possibility of their involvement in an ultimate airsoft version. Their parts, as demonstrated by their comparison photos, are very, very accurate.
