hey guys, I've been using micro sol and set for a few years now, it doesn't really wow me all that much. What are some of the preferred decal setting solutions around here? who knows? maybe I'm not applying it correctly.:lol

What kind of problems are you having?

my decals just dont settle down as much as I'd like them to. the model I'm working on right now is going to be covered with large decals that cover a lot of details.

I have always had great luck with Solvaset. I only recently discovered how much of a difference decaling on a gloss surface can make, as Solvaset allowed me to apply decals on mat/flat surfaces with little to no silvering.

Be careful with it though, because it will dissolve the decals, it softens them up quite a bit.

With the solvaset I usually wet the surface for the decal with the solvaset, apply the decal, apply solvaset over the decal, then pat down with a damp paper towel. You shouldn't handle the model until the decal has finished setting as it will be very fragile at this point.

A gloss surface allows the decal to be applied without getting air trapped behind it. Silvering is just that. Air being trapped behind the decal.
I also always trim the decal to elimonate the clear edge around the image as much as possible.

I have had quite a bit of success using microsol and microset as long as I trimmed the decal and applied it on a gloss finish.
Then if the final finish is matt you just have to apply a clear matt coat and you are there.

Yeah I always use a clear gloss before applying them, and trim as much off as possible. I was just never really happy with the effect from the microsol products, who knows maybe it was the decal film its self.

That solvaset, is it ok on acryilics?

I my modelling history I found out that microsol and microset products work the best with decal products from the western hemisphere ( Super Scale, CAM, Eagle, etc...) and Gunze's MR. Mark Softer and Gunze Mr. Mark Setter with products from the eastern hemisphere ( TamiGawa, Acad. Trump. etc ).

Also I have come to the conclusion ( for Myself ) that Mr Mark Softer and Setter is the strongest but not always the best product.
