Death Wish - Bad timing?

So according to Rotten Tomatoes, critics hate it 14% users like it 80%. I know these can be manipulated.

This movie like Black Panther/Race, cannot be separated from recent gun violence...but is it worth seeing?

Would the critics be biased about a man who solves personal issues with guns?

I saw and knew what it was going to be about. I enjoyed it for what it was, a vigilante movie.
There were only 5 of us in the whole theater.

I can't argue with that at all. But the reviews I've seen of this movie are all tied very closely to the current political climate around firearms. I'm yet to read anything about how good the plot or performances etc are.

I really like Bruce Willis I just don't see him making a dent in what Bronson did. I will see it when it comes on TV I guess. The thing that stands out to me is how much humor is in the trailers when it is not a humorous subject to begin with.

I saw it last night at a 7pm showing. There was maybe 20 people in the theater. The movie itself was ok. It definitely had a gun porn feel to it. They were not shy about the violence at all. There was definitely some humor, but not a lot. Felt very much like a throwback to 80s action movies to me.

This film comes along at the perfect time for me. No one can top Bronson in the role though.

From what I read on Wikipedia, the author of the original book feels that the newer movie is closer to the book than the original (which he didn't like what they did with). So it's gonna be a toss-up on if fans of the original like this one or feel it's too different from teh original.

IMO the movie definitely suffers from timing.

It's the kind of show that could have been a surprise hit if it had been really good, and in a way that appealed to more than conservative middle-aged white guys. But if the movie is just serviceable than it probably will go straight to Redbox.

I will say this - the original Bronson stuff is far enough back that this plays like a new idea for most people under 45. The Bronson stuff wasn't too many decades ago but it has never gotten a lot of cable TV play since it came out.

How do you "know" RT scores can be manipulated? And for what purpose?

Why act like the two are automatically conflated?

Technically, the Kevin Bacon movie, Death Sentence, is an adaptation (loosely) of the sequel novel.

According to the author of the books, he disliked Death Wish (original movie) because it glorified vigilantism, and didn't have the character declining as the movie went on. Then they made a sequel to that (Death Wish II) that was so far different from his idea that he wrote a sequel book, Death Sentence. The Death Sentence movie was only loosely related to the book, but kept his ideas, so he likes that one. This new Death Wish movie is supposedly closer to the book, so he likes this one, too.

Sure, anything can be manipulated. But just because you think so, does not make it so or prove it so.

Assuming a site is being manipulative, without proof, is truly naive as you are drawing conclusions without enough information.

And someone asking for information is actually an attempt to inform themselves. Which is the opposite of naivete.

Went to see this earlier today. There's nothing wrong with this movie, it's quite enjoyable. Unlike most of the people commenting here I've actually seen it. I don't harbor an anti-gun sentiment though, so I'm not going to talk badly about it out of some misguided morality argument.

Everyone in my theater seemed to enjoy it.
