Deadwood fans?

Any Deadwood fans here? It's on sale today on Amazon for $79, and just wondering what the consensus was around here? Any good?

Thanks!

It is awesome.

But never buy something just because it is cheap.

Rent it.

I don't have Netflix (and don't want to sign up just to rent one series). Renting isn't really an option for me. I don't mind buying if it's seriously good (like BSG or The Sopranos), and I'll watch it again. :)

I rented it a while back and really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it!

I loved it.
After I dragged you kicking and screaming to it!

That reminds me - I still haven't finished the last few episodes (had the Netflix rented disks in my possession since August!). I think I'm just afraid to have it end. If I don't watch the last couple eps - then it'll never end :D

Deadwood accompanies Star Trek TOS, Mad Men, Hill Street Blues, and Moore's BS:G on my list of Top 5 hourly dramatic faves.

So, you know, I say spend the $79.00.

Good series, but yeah, never resolved. Canceled due to the ineptitude of Chris Albrecht. Same goes for Carnivale, which had a TON of potential. (yes, I know I'm being harsh on the guy, but HBO REALLY fell from favor with me for a while, and only recently came back with True Blood and season 2 of Epitafios).

Ok ok ok! :lol I BOUGHT the freakin' thing! It was actually $74 (not $79), so even better, and free shipping with Amazon Prime. It's back up to $99 today, so I can handle a 25% off sale! :D

I figured that I *might* be able to watch 3 of the discs per month. At $9/month and 19 discs in the series, it would take me about 6 months and around $54 to rent the series. I spent $20 more and I get to keep it, so I'm totally cool with that. :cool

Since George Lucas says that he wants the upcoming live action Star Wars TV series to be like "Deadwood meets The Sopranos in space", and I already have The Sopranos, this might be a good time to check out Deadwood.

Thanks for the input! (y)thumbsup

Now there's two series that I thought were not only worth watching but enough reason to keep paying for cable!

Alas I moved, lost cable and therefore track of both of those shows. I have no idea how they ended but I was maybe into the second or so season of both and used to eagerly await each new airing.

So back to your original question:

IMHO Deadwood was right up there with the best that TV had to offer in a series.:cool

<<< Ahem.

Either you'll like it or you won't -- no middle ground on this one.
Loved it right away, and for me it gets better the more times I watch.
I think it needed one more season to really tie it with bow, but I can pretty much figure how things would have gone down.

Hope you enjoy c***sucka!

Well, it arrived this morning! I ordered it about 1AM Thursday, and got it about 9AM this morning. Can't beat 1 day shipping, and it was free (since I ordered it with Amazon Prime). :D

I'll get to watchin' it as soon as the kids are in bed. :lol

Back when when I bought the first season, I was planning on watching 1 episode a night. I ended up watching the entire season in two night. Definitely one of the top 3 series ever produced.

I watched the first 2 episodes yesterday (all I could watch before my kids woke up), and then 4 more episodes this morning.

Love the show, as I thought I probably would. It *might* be better than The Sopranos. The Sopranos had excellent writing, but there were only a handful of characters that I actually cared about what happened to them. Deadwood has amazing writing AND I care about almost ALL of the characters - even the really "bad guys" (which I think is a testament to the writing).

William Sanderson (me being a fan of his from Blade Runner and Newhart) is a plus, as well as Powers Boothe, Jeffrey Jones, and Brad Dourif make it a great cast. The lady who plays Calamity Jane is excellent. She's one of the best actors on the show.

Can't wait to watch more! Thanks for the comments, guys! :thumbsup
