DEADPOOL! Original concept of a beloved character. *PICS ADDED*

Hey there, hi there, howdy. Been a while since I have been here, been away in Army training and such, but I've recently been inspired to start a new costume, and I figured I could come here for tips, advice, and mental councilling if need be, lol.

Anyway, as you could have guessed from the thread title, I'm designing my own concept for a Deadpool costume. I'm not trying to change too much about the character's look, but make it a little more practical (skin-tight bodysuits just don't scream "mercenary")

Anyhow, I'll have pics of some of my concept sketches later, but for now, I think a description would suffice. Tell me what you think, and if you have any ideas better than mine, I'd love to hear them.

Anyway, for the body, I'm thinking a red long sleeved shirt under a black faux-leather vest that replicates the pattern found on his bodysuit. The problem I find here is having the red of the shirt match the red pants I would have to use. Any advice on what kind of shirt and/or pants I should use would be very much appreciated.

As for the mask, one idea I had was to build it as a dual-layered mask. Obviously, the outer layer would be red, and underneath, would be black. For the eyes, I was thinking of somehow permanently affixing silver mirrored lenses from some aviator sunglasses beneath the eyeholes of the black mask. Not white, I know, but I think it could look good if done right.

I have some ideas for accessories, some serious, some comical, but any suggestions there would also be welcome.

Anyway, I'm glad to be back, and I can't wait to get started on building this and showing you my progress from start to finish!

fantastic idea.... eagerly awaiting updates

i tried my hand at doing this aswell......maybe ill post pictures of mine on my make thread good luck have some fun with it :)

Re: DEADPOOL! Original concept of a beloved character.

My idea for the vest has changed slightly. Instead of using faux leather, I am dissassembling a black denim trench coat I have and adding leather accents. I've already started the deconstruction, so I should have some updates on at least the vest soon.

Also, I'm changing the mask idea as well. Instead of aviator sunglasses, I'll be using silver mirrored swimming goggles.

The approach I'm taking on this suit is the idea that Deadpool, being completely whacked out of his mind after the Weapon X program, wouldn't take the time and effort to make some fancy body suit. He'd put together things he found to create the look he had.

If all goes according to plan, this suit should look pretty awesome. I've seen plenty of Deadpools before, with varying degrees of success. I don't want to have this be cheap looking, which is why I'm starting it this early.

I hope to have pictures of my progress of the vest as early as tonight, but it may take a couple of days. And yes, I will have a lot of fun making this costume :)

so... like this?

dye the denim vest black

use underarmor in red for the shirt

buy a light color (khaki maybe) pair of cargo pants and dye them red

black service boots

lifting or biker gloves

Re: DEADPOOL! Original concept of a beloved character.

Very close, actually, in that concept art there. I like it!

The coat is already black, so that's not a problem, but I've actually cut the coat to literally match the symmetrical pattern found on his jumpsuit, and I'm using red double-fold binding as edging around the pattern and the sleeves.

As for the pants, I was still going for relatively form-fitting, so I was thinking maybe just red skinny jeans. Hadn't thought of dying cargo pants. I'll have to look into that, since it would look a little more "soldier-like", and considering I am an actual soldier, I know I could pull that look off, lol. Thanks for the idea!

looking forward to seeing your costume. I bet it will look great.

Re: DEADPOOL! Original concept of a beloved character.

Vest is completed! Picture updates coming later! It looks just like I predicted it would, so I'm quite pleased with the outcome. Can't wait to see what everyone else here thinks of it.

Funny, I've had this same idea bouncing around the back of my head. The idea of a more practical Deadpool costume is intriguing. My only comment is that if you can do it with dingy or subdued reds, that would be a neat touch, or at least that's what I had in my brain.

Here's the first shot of the completed vest. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I'll get more high-quality pics of it from different angles, but this shot gets the general look across. I'll be working on the mask and the belt/torso harness next, as soon as I start getting paychecks from my new job, lol.

well maybe if the under suit(as it were) underneath the vest will give it more of the deadpool-esque appearance that we all know and love

great work goat!

I can see what you mean about the medieval look, but it won't have that feel to it once it's with everything else. I'm still adding minor details to it, but I figured I'd put up some shots of it since for all intents and purposes, it is actually completed.

i'd almost call it a persian jacket. lol

maybe adding some strategic padding in geometric shapes to make it armor like would enhance it. or maybe add pockets like a mil jacket or a flak jacket.

I was actually going to be adding some leather to it and such, to add to the appearance of it, but the pockets were going to be mostly coming from the utility belt/ torso harness.

THanks for the input, I'll be looking into the padding idea.
