And while that's likely the case, the two kids who were in the truck that cause fire were certainly not completely destroyed, but they didn't come out as crispy crunchy zombies either. So there were some inconsistencies too.

I have to agree. An explosion and fire like seen in the film would cook everything, including the brain. And even if the brain wasn't destroyed in the explosion, the muscles would have been cooked down to the bone (or I think it would have).
