Uuuugh! Laying hair is horrible!
I'm covered in little bits of it and I keep finding it everywhere, and I've gone through an entire box of disposable gloves because as soon as the fingers get sticky they start pulling off the hair you're carefully laying out and you end up with a matted mess. That said, spray adhesive is a marvellous permanent hairspray and the small cans are very controllable. It is looking good, though progress is painstakingly slow.
I take little 5mm (1/5 inch) bunches of hair, trim the end to square it off, spray the small linear area to lay it over, push the squared-off end into the base firmly and apply tension with my other hand to lay the fibres as straight and flat as possible. The hair is fluffy at this point, so I give it a misting with more adhesive and move on to lay another piece elsewhere before going back in with the back of my hand to smooth the hair down over the foam.

It looks so tangly in the photo but it's much less ridiculous in person, looks more like the spike on the right. That one also has the white hair streaks over the top to add those highlights. Much better. Now for hours and hours more hair work. *looooong deflating balloon fart noise*
