Darth Vader ROTJ Reveal mask My build

Thanks guys...but it was only a fast test. The parts are not 100% accurate taped on the mask.:)

New to this thread, but since a friend has asked me to help him build one of these, i figured I'd check in. I previously asked what the two round items were in a photo of a bunch of parts that was posted by Sym-Cha I beleive. I have since found out they are vintage camera lens parts and very hard to come by. Does anyone ( Sym-Cha or Kroenen perhaps) here have any super high rez pics of these from a bunch of different angles? Also, what is the diameter? I think I can do a pretty good representation of these in 3D and get them 3d Printed. Happy to make the file available if I can get enough reference pics.

Those parts are indeed from diaphragms of a vintage camera, which kind eludes me for the moment ... they came with my kit ... and are very intricate and difficult to reproduce because of all the tiny details and screws ... not to mention tiny springs. If I have some time left ... I'll shoot some pictures ... just don't hold your breath because I'm about to go on holidays later this week :)

This shutters are from different models.I have 2 of them but only one is 100% accurate.
But here are good shots of the originals.

That would be great. The 3d model would be as detailed as I can make it but not so far as drawing stuff not normally visible. The details would be such that a service bureau like Shapeways would have no problem with it but someone doing it at home on a desktop FDM machine might not have the resolution to be happy with the results.

Thanks Kroenen Those are pretty good. A few shots along the sides would help and an idea of how big around they are would be key. Also, if these are the originals from the prop, how different are the ones people are finding for their replicas? Are these close to what you gave?

They used exact the same shutters in the originalprop. But its not easy to find them today.;)

What is the source of the mesh? It looks very tight, almost likes cheese grater , but I expect it isn't.
there is a

great mask casting work by the way. Very professional & accurate

So I noticed my shutters are not absolutely screen-accurate, those tiny springs are missing, however they are close enough for me ... here's a picture to give you an idea of the height ... I added a regular workman's pencil for size comparison :

Fantastic stuff. I would love to build a reveal Vader but the level of detail, parts and esoterica is way too much for me to take on.

Well to tell you the truth why I've only been collecting parts when they became within reach and not started to build the DV ROTJ Reveal mask as of yet ... because it's quite overwhelming ... that being an understatement :wacko

Someone who shall remain namelss, but his name sounds a lot like a black and white animal, was gonna make a awesome reveal kit with mostly metal parts to make all of our lives easier. You can see his parts here:

Now, not to put any pressure on Sskunk,....I mean the guy, but someone needs to go to his house and "kidnapp" his collection and hold it until he makes the kit. Oh,....wait, sorry NSA I meant "borrow" his collection. Please don't add me to a list.

Good pics so far.
Sym-Cha - How big around are pencils in the Netherlands? Here in the U.S. they are right at 7 mm in diameter.
Also, for those of you that are doing these and have done the extensive research on the original prop, were the two shutters identical, left and right? If so, was one flipped over to preserve symmetry with each other?
Any idea how big the hole is in the middle. The more measurements and pics I can get the better I can double check the drawing as it goes along.

Pencil is 7mm indeed, the hole is 17,5 mm and the outer diameter is 43,5 mm and the height is 8,5 mm ... that's about all I can share for now ... I'm preparing a journey so I won't be home to take either more pictures or measurements until I return :)

Hey thats great. Based on the pics I had, I came up with a diameter of just under 1.75 inches so at 43.5mm that works out to 1.71 inches. Il make the changes to my rough blank and hopefully start drawing this weekend. Thanks! Have a fun trip.

Guys, is this debate still going on... really? I thought it was settled more than a decade ago! :)

Left shutter is a Copal MXV, found prominently in the Yashica D tlr camera:

And the right side shutter is from the Kalimar reflex: (made by Seagull) whose identity was revealed to
me by my good buddy Marcus Thompson in Scotland years ago... ;)
