Darth vader grill? where does it come from? Theory?

Hey guys - it's always fun to bring up vader threads right?

I was wondering if any of you knew exactly where the screen used vader grills were from. Were they from car grills or something else.

The reason why I ask is because I'm doing construction on my house and they're about to put up the exterior walls and use stucco. The contractors have brought over some sort of mesh that looks kinda like anh vader mouth grills.

I have some pictures of the mesh that I found on the web. Is this the right source? or is it just coincidence that it looks really close.

Anyone out there with expert knowledge please chime in - so I know whether to take pair of wire cutters and cut out pieces of material from the construction materials outside or not.

Thanks

I wouldn't start attacking your walls yet Thomas, the ANH grills look to be diamond shape. Not sure if a correct source was positively identified, though outside of the propmakers having sheets to hand for other purposes (I think there was a lot of plaster prop making done at the studio befor SW so likely they had a lot of random mesh about?) one theory is from truck air filters.

afaik there is no proven source for the screenused mesh, but Kurtyboy´s mesh looks a lot like the real deal.
like i said in other threads i´m no Vader expert but judging by my personal comparison with original ANH helmets it might be the original used mesh actually. maybe Kurtyboy chimes in here...

yea, sorry guys.. I don't know what I was thinking. It IS supposed to be a diamond pattern.

I personally don't need any. I have a completed mask already... I just saw it outside amongst the construction materials and thought it looked 'kinda" like vader's mouth grill. I typed this without checking my own mask and doing any research.. my bad.
