Hello all,
I've been kinda quiet for a few weeks...loads of stuff to do. Here are the results of my latest cutaway shenanigans.
Build story:
As with my Luke ROTJ, the outer shell is cold cast metal, lined with a copper core. I wanted to have the outer led light up as well, but decided to use it as a power button for the force crystal instead- thereby eliminating the need for a potentially ugly switch. Space was definitely at a premium on this saber... off hand I'd say the interior is barely an inch wide making it a p.i.t.a. to work with! For one thing, it meant that most of the parts I was used to using on previous builds would be way too big.
Another departure from my past efforts was that I actually did a simple concept sketch to give me an idea of what I was going for. For the others, I basically had some ideas and started building, making things up as I went, but this time I tried to constrain myself to replicate a specific look... or mood. (Things rarely turn out exactly as they do on paper, but you all can judge if I got close enough or not.)
About midway through I had a disaster... I was putting a final clear coat on the shell, when the underlying paint reacted (probably not 100% cured, stupid amateurish mistake on my part) and I had to strip the whole thing and start over, losing about a weeks work. For the finish, I used two-part auto paint. Expensive as hell, but it gives a much deeper luster than anything out of a spray can.
Well... on to the pics:

The finished saber
Comments... questions... just shoot! Now if y'all will excuse me... I need to go start making leds glow purple. :love
