Darth Revan Pep Mask

Finally finished my first pepakura project. Darth Revan's mask, with the excellent pepakura model from Fierfek.
Here are the photos I took of progress.
Lessons learned:
  • You don't need as much tape as you think to help you, use pva glue, it stays stuck and dries fast.
  • Don't put the bondo layer on too thick, there's only so much time you can devote to sanding.
  • If you tire of a tricky part of your pepakura, take a break, a night, a week, a fortnight, then come back to it.

The visor was made from a doubled later of a motorcycle visor insert. I was going to put a layer of tights behind it but found two layers hid my eyes. There are three tiny magnets glued in the top, and three on the front piece of a headlamp headband. It wobbles but it doesn't come off. I'm quite happy with my work. Now I have a lot of costume to make.

Build was card, pva, tape, masking tape, various other terrible glues, fibre glass resin, fibre glass, rondo (fibreglass and bondo mix), bondo, grey primer, car body paint, red acrylic, semi-gloss clear coat, foam, motorcycle visor inlay, magnets, and a Petzel headlamp headband.

Noice!!!

I always love seeing other peoples Revan WIP photos (ノ゚▽゚)ノ
I too used a Pepakura file for mine! Although, I wasn't patient enough for the glue so I had used tape for all of it >w< ;;
But as a costumer and traditional artist, your "various other terrible glues" statement hit home lmao
I am forever reminded of one of my glues sealed in a thick bag labeled CANCER ... ah art.
I also love how you used magnets to hold your mask in place - it really does hold up well?
I failed at mine (ended up being way too heavy) and had to make a 'death trap' hat on the back just to keep mine on,
which is alright though because you can't see it under all the hoods huehuehue
My mask ended up being ...
~ Pep file (held with normal scotch tape)
~ painted three times (inside and out) with Titebond II wood glue
~ layered with Worbla (inside and out - I was too scared and didn't want to try out resin ...)
~ layered with Gesso and sanded 5 billion times (this is where it became super heavy and needed the backing)
~ dismembered, green face-shield welders mask for visor
~ painted and weathered
~ spray fixed to perfection! <3

Good luck with the rest of your Revan!! There can never be enough of this guy imo :)
Mine just got admitted into the 501st so if you ever want help or questions please feel free to ask me! (^▽^)

Ace costume!
The magnets definitely hold it to my head, but it has a slight wobble to it. I may need to create a strap a little lower down to stop it, which sort of negates the usefulness of magnet on-and-off clipping but might be necessary.
What did you make the rest of your body armour of? I am getting a professional costuming friend to help with most of the rest of the cloth-based bits, but he also does leather work and am thinking of having the rest of the armour parts built from that

As I've learned in costuming - you will always have a need to improve/fix/modify every costume!!
So I'm sure you'll find that right mask attachment combo :) I'm currently in the process of updating my own Revan!
All of the armor (including mask) was made out of Worbla - a thermoplastic!
Worbla has it's pros and cons but by the time I made Revan I had already been using Worbla for over a year - so I was used to it.

Having a friend to help out is ALWAYS superb! Especially when it's an area you're not too familiar with or just dislike in general ...
like my fight against the hakama pants ... much yelling and crying ensued that day.
I've seen one Revan before with full leather armor -- it was beauuuutiful!
My Cad Bane I'm working on is mostly leather (hat, duster, gun holster etc etc) -- friend is teaching me and it's verrrrry fun!!
So either way whatever armor material choice you go with it's learning a new skill and having fun with a friend while crafting!
Win-win in my book :)

I cannot seem to find a Pepakura file to get started on this for my son. Can someone point me in the right direction? I plan to make mine out of EVA.
Cheers.

try onekura.com but they are experiencing some technical difficulties right now so you might not be able to download it if you find the pepfile
