Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Image pg 124!

I have a question please. When scaling some of these parts (such as the chest piece) to 27 which is approx what the scale reference in the first post places me at the parts don't all fit on the pages. I used the "recalculate parts layout" from the 2d menu but it still puts some of the pieces off the page. It's probably a noobish problem but can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Hopefully it hasn't been answered already and I just missed it.

Thanks,

Billy

There is a connect and divide tool that can cut the longer pieces in half so they fit within the page. I don't know if pepakura viewer has this feature though.

Could you post a link to the pep files for the chest brace please? It wasn't included in the zip. And I've been having a tough time finding one! Thanks in advance!

hello everyone!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread and the rpf! i love this site! i have been doing as much research as i can handle and just have a quick simple question. I downloaded the pep files and tester files for the mark 7 build and everything seems to be going smoothly... im just curious on the helmet scale to use. i have approx. a 23" head... so i chose the .96 version two helmet to use.... (they suggested the .95 for a 22-23" head) because i wanted to leave room for electronics and hinges. Does anyone know exactly how much extra room i will need for these? any advice will help! thank you!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Image pg 124!

Just an FYI so far it seems like 2 inch chip brushes are going to be the most expensive part of my build. They're about a dollar a piece in local stores and I used 5 of them just doing my helmet. Once the fiberglass dries in them they're done. Is there a secret to reusing these brushes or do you guys just order in bulk somewhere?

Also if you're going to make a flip up faceplate, when should I separate the faceplate from the rest of the helmet? Should I have separated them before fiberglassing (oops) or just before doing the outer bondo type work, or after it's all fiberglassed/bondo and then cut them apart?

I made the .95 scale helmet, and unfortunately it comes nowhere near fitting even the smallest head. when I redo it, what parts should I focus on that I might have done wrong?

Your magic chemical is Laquer thinner, just be sure to read all sorts of precaution (like dont put it in a plastic cup, the cup will melt, dont have it come contact with your car cause the paint is gonna strip off) Put it in a glass container then leave your brush there until your next use, you now can use your brush approx 10-20 times if done right.. Ive used mine 25 times and all i spent is about a cup and a half of thinner.

as for faceplate separation, separate it in the last stage when all is smooth and shaped

So Far so good. Except for the biceps it seems to be too big at a scale of 23.5

Nice nice, thanks I didn't know Laquer thinner would work on fiberglass like that. Thanks for both tips.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Image pg 124!

Hey! Sizing/scaling question!

I built the brace out of foam and was going to proceed with a full foam build, but decided to just go with the cardstock and resin since I have the time and would like more detail.

Anyhow, I'm 5'8" but I am very stocky. Bigger shoulders/chest and 36" waist. What scale should I use? The standard scale for the foam brace was too small.

Thanks to everyone that commented on the new V2 forearm. I am glad you all like it.

Don't use "recalculate parts layout" cause you will loose any and all organization that the unfolder put into the file. You should manually move the parts around. For the parts that are too big to fit on the page you have to use the join/disjoin faces tool in the 2D menu. Then you can 'cut' the big part into 2 smaller parts.

There is a link in the first post. Robo3687's files.

This depends on the components you are going to use and how you are going to do the hinge.

I noticed that this question already got answered but I wanted to repost a tip that I read somewhere (in this thread I think) someone said that if you get a silicone basting brush (cookware) then the resin just comes right off of it. I have not tried it personally so I can't say if it works or not but he seemed to like it.

You are not trying to fit your head through the neck hole are you?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Image pg 124!

Speaking of the forearm, I just finished installing some of the electronics in my Iron Man MK VII gauntlet. So far I'm happy with the hinge design.

Hi peopz,

here are the first pics of my build. Hope you like it.
I tried to use alle the hinge points as meant in the movie. I used real screws in the faceplate that are attached to the hinges and servos in the helmet.

I like how you put the screws! I also have been thinking of putting real screws...

But that helmet isn't done with darkside's files is it? Looks like a mk6

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Image pg 124!

Been building mine, bit disheartened, The thing fitted my head when it was folded in card but when I resined it got it all nice then cut the back off to fit my noggin in was was too tight grrr so so disappointed that I have to have a break, ever get that? spent weeks getting to the point of going to do the hinges to find it a not going to fit on my head. I just love the helmets you guys are doing, really want one but I think I need to regroup my patience and go a scale or two up. ( Is just the ear section, anyone else have this prob? ) anyways heres some pix, this one will be left in the corner of my shed I think :(IMAG0026.jpgIMAG0045.jpgIMAG0046.jpg

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!

This is my worst nightmare, I'm dreading getting to that point and finding the same. Is it just your ears that don't fit or do the ear pieces actually hit your noggin? Hope somebody on hear can offer some advice on how to get around this.

On a plus note, that's a nice looking helmet, very clean. I'm sure your next one will be even better :)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Image pg 124!

Yes, I had that same problem. My helmet was so tight that the ear pieces.gave me bruises on my temple. HOWEVER, I knew it had to fit since I already tested it out when it was still in the paper stage and it fit just right. So I got my dremel and ground away at the ear section as much as I could. I got so deep that I basically removed the Fiberglass around the ears. Fortunately since its a very thick section, it remained very sturdy because of the amount of bondo on those parts. But most importantly, it fit my head perfectly. So in short, so long as you were absolutely certain that it fit when in the paper stage, then its likely those ear pieces just became too thick when fiberglassed. ;)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Image pg 124!

If the ear pieces are hollow (the pieces you still have to add), you can simply cut a hole in the helmet to let your ears go inside the circular pieces you haven't attached yet. May add the extra space you need.
