Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Well, the work you've done is quite amazing, especially considering the points of reference that were available when you started, kudos - you've done a fantastic job!

I do have a small request - favor; I've finished up the entire body portion of the suit(shoulders, chest, back, abs), and the one issue I'm noticing as it sits on a mannequin, is the back is floppy, unlike the remaining parts of the suit, it has no support system to use when applying resin, I was wondering if you could possibly release a file that can help support the shape of the back? I've attached an image to sort of explain;
backstrut.jpg

The image simply shows where in my experience I've noticed the shape becomes distorted. I think a file that helps support its shape might be pretty useful :p

Thanks, I hope you are as impressed with my version 2 files. The supports are on the 2nd back file that IronLeoMan was supposed to be unfolding. They will work for the first back file as well. If anyone else would like to unfold the 2nd back then I can give you the PDO file.

I hope I understand you correctly. So, 1.8 meters = 5.91 feet. Why don't you try a scale of 24 and see if the estimated size of the finished pieces works for you.

I like how you did the gloves! It should be real easy to get them on and off with the way you built them. Thanks for posting.

Hey Darkside,

Would you be willing to tell me a scale for 56"? I'm trying to size this for my son.

Thanks.

Unfortunately the best I can do is just unfold the supports, as I never really got familiar with Pepakura, haha.
I am looking forward to your version 2 files as well, I may not have it in me to redo the chest and back, but I will certainly take a peek at what other files you redo as I'm sure the quality will be superb.

A scale of 19 should be fine.

I'm seriously impaired when it comes to scaling things. Originally, I tried to use 20 which I thought would give some extra room but that did not work. Thanks for the suggestion of 19 though.

I used the lower ring of the ABS scale model to come up with the 20. 20 was too small for my oldest son and was snug on my youngest son who is 3 years younger at 8.

I'm still trying though.

thanks

There should be only one upper forearm file for pepakura and one upper forearm for foam. What are the file names?

Here are the files I have from your cloud drive. They are the last three on the list:

Iron Man MKVII Upper Forearm by Darkside501st - FOAM EDIT BY ironmaided.pdo

Iron Man MKVII Upper Forearm by Darkside501st - Modified FOAM EDIT BY ironmaided2(1).pdo

Iron Man MKVII Upper Forearm by Darkside501st - Modified FOAM EDIT BY ironmaided2.pdo

Sorry just realized that one is a copy. So there is only 2. Thanks for the help.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

The files I have posted (version 1) are not really WIP files they are complete although with the new images that were released I noticed some differences in the details. I am going to rework my model to add/modify these details and release it as a version 2. If you are gonna do a foam build then version 1 will give you what you need. Just work with the pictures and make a few minor changes if you want... regardless, everyone will know you are wearing the Mark VII. Check out some pics that were posted of the awesome foam builds that other members did.

Awesome, thanks for the info Darkside. I've read through the rest of the most recent posts, and in interest of scaling for the whole suit I am forgoing helmet construction for now to work on the abs/cod/chest (going with 26 since I am 6'1"). This will allow me to use the MK VII helm once it is done, and will give me a better idea of how the whole suit will fit me once completed. I've never done pep before, and I intend to resin everything I can, so this seems like a good place to start. I also have a VERY easy idea to make the abs "mobile" to give folks flexibility, and can be used with resin OR foam (by the way, where would folks suggest I look for foam in stores... Home Depot was crap). Until I can test the idea myself and verify the mechanics of it, I'll continue brainstorming. If it is a success, I'll be sure to let everyone know ASAP- I'll start my own suit thread once I have some progress to actually show... 55 hour work weeks + additional part time job + Diablo 3 = Free time? What's that? Luckily I can work on cutting pieces during some of the 9-5 overtime. :lol

Cheers!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Hey everyone just joined i wanted to ask a few questions

First what mm should be the thickness of the cardboard paper and second is there a way to scale the model to fit me.

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Well... you're definately new.

It's called CARDSTOCK, it's not actually cardboard.

Ideally, you want 110lb.

Hit up the Stationary Isle of walmart. They'll help you find it.
