Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Well the mark 6 was build to accommodate the energy from the new RT. So i think the MKVI would be his standard armor.

Looks like there is a bit of Iron Patriot/Detroit Steel on the table. The silver arm piece with the gold part and the red trim.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

question guys I have my whole upper body section of the armor done and my biggest concern is how to rig the abs to stay on. I thought of using a strip down the center of the back with velcro on it to attach the abs in the back but any other ideas are welcome guys. I really need to figure out the rigging for it.

anyone want to answer this or are we going to discuss the Ironman 3 set photos that are in 6 other threads right now?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Well, the abs bit was covered by Darkside501st pretty well (quoted below). If you're looking for step-by-step details, I always thought figuring those out was half the fun . . . .

ab flex system explained below. There are several ideas for attaching the different armor pieces together. I have not made a real world suit yet so I wouldn't be the best person to give that advice. Stealth has a video tutorial up for attaching the foam armor. Look him up on youtube under 'The Hero Tutorials'. Also there are several good ideas in Robo3687's thread for the Mk IV/VI pep files.

The abs are made as a series of interlocking plates that will be able to slide over one another. So while each section is mostly hard and inflexible (if you do the real pep process), each section will slide over the section below it and the sum result will be some mobility. This is the same method that 'knights in shinning armor' used in medieval times. Also think of your spine... each bone is hard but they move and flex with each other so that you can bend over and touch your toes. You won't have that much mobility in the Iron Man suit though. lol

You can build this in many ways. Really it is up to the creativity of the individual making the armor. I have seen people use elastic straps, springs, cables, and belts (as in elastic that goes around the body but is attached to the parts. Of course you could glue it together into one rigid piece, make it out of foam, or make a rigid piece, make a mold and cast it in expandable foam (not sure what the stuff is really called). The idea is that it will move like this when done:

This has been around for a while. Just so everyone knows I am not the one that thought this up. I am not sure who first thought to apply this armor making technique to Iron Man builds.

I have just uploaded the unfolded abs. Check the link in the first post. There are two files. The first file, 'Iron Man MKVII Abs by Darkside501st - file for assembled scale only' is used only to get the finished 'relaxed' scale of the abs. They can expand and contract as mentioned before. The second file, 'Iron Man MKVII Abs by Darkside501st - unfolded by IronLeoMan' is the one you want to use to print out the sections and assemble the pep. It is an exploded view of the abs. I did it this way to make scaling and unfolding easier.

If any of you would like to contribute or 'give something back' I can accept donations to my paypal account. Every little bit helps, it takes a lot of time and patience to make these models. I am sharing these files freely to anyone that wants to use them but if you want to help a fellow RPF member out for all the time it takes to make these files it is greatly appreciated. PM me if interested. Also, I will display your username on the first post as a contributor to the project.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Thank you sir, I have been in this thread since the start and must of missed that. I kind of have a pretty good idea of how to do it BUT wanted a few people who have gotten to that a part to give me some advice on how they did it

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

No worries - these large threads can hide tonnes of info. I don't recall who might have used this method, but at least there's some terms to search on.

Yes you want them scaled to the same proportions otherwise they will not line up when you try to connect them.

Wow. The light used for the hand repulsor looks amazing. May I ask where you found it? :]

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

An official HALL OF ARMOR Pic was Released:

Cant make much out... In the 2nd Movie he had the Battle Damaged suits.
I Guess he's not doing that anymore. Only keeping suits that are 100%.

Anyway, Darkside, How's the Version 2 coming?

There is one more thing going around in my mind, if the war machine suit is an MK2 modded suit then how is suposed to be in the pic that MK2? did he build another one as he might do with the MK6 and MK7? Just because MK5 to MK7 were pretty damaged in battles and those one in the pic are not as damaged as suppose to be :p

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

That's a good observation, I see all the armors in the picture, I wonder how they are going to play out that one, maybe Hammer just took the specs of the MKII and build a whole new body, but did he repaired all of them too?!!! the studios should had left the Jon Favreau, you know for continuity....

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

OK, I couldn't wait for the version 2 files so I started with the version 1 files. :lol I figured that this will give me practice for when I start working on the version 2 files, when they are released. Thanks again Darkside!

UPDATE 6/2/2012

Fixed some issues that I was having with my helmet,

your quite a bit ahead of me! Im finding some of the fiddly bits tricky, especially the bicep/elbow joint LOL. Ive just finished the chest though part of its not symetrical so im kinds stuck until I can sort it. Did you just stick the chest inserts in?

I got a pressing Question as well....

Where IS WarMachine? Shouldn't it be in the Hall of Armour?

Mabey it's at Rhodey's House?

Do you mean the cavity in the chest that holds the arc reactor? If so then yes, it's there. I followed Darkside's file exactly so everything is there. I have to do a little bit of work on the lower fin area where there are some wrinkles in the paper, but I can fix that with bondo.:)

Technically, you can't see the MK2 in this pic. From what I see is a table with junk on it. Can't really make out if there is anything behind it. As for the battle damaged MK5, it makes since that he would have gotten rid of that and made a new one, it being portable and all. As for the MK7 in the pic might be a remake as well and is the one he is currently using?

But the obvious 'WTF', is the MK1.. Was destroyed in the desert, left behind and picked up by the terrorist. Why would he have rebuilt that one?

MK1 appears in IM2 so Tony fix it time ago, and MK2 is in the pic at the left, so he must build a new one, Hammer said he modded the MK2 into WM. Also WM can´t appear as longer as Rhodey said he wasn´t going to return it to him.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

He wouldnt exactly have to THROW AWAY a suit. It's only the armor (in theory) that gets damaged. He can sell the pieces back to a smelting place, and buy some more to machine.

He can keep the "UNDERTECH" which is what ILM calls it, and just bolt his new armor plates to that.

I mean hell.... If your car gets a dented fender, do you sell the WHOLE car, or just replace the fender?
