Daredevil: Working Grapples. A 2nd look

Well, it's been about 10 years (can you believe it!?) since I did a very small run of these. I was so burned out on this prop towards the end that I sold the last few pieces off as unfinished kits. I was fortunate enough to get a couple of these back recently and I'm presently building them for clients.

I always regretted not documenting them a little better last time around. They're very complex pieces w/ some pretty tricky linkage. I remember it taking about 8 months to get all the metal work together and that was with the assistance of the original propmaker who provided notes and 1 of 2 original props for me to study.

Daredevil seems to be back in vogue so I thought I'd share as I build these out. Here's a quick video showing everything completed:

Here's how all the metal work looks prior to adding the veneers.

Those look awesome, but I could probably never afford them. So go ahead & send me all of your machine drawings, CAD files, etc; so I can put them into a computer & build my own. Thanks.

OK, I'm sorry, I just wanted to know what it would feel like, to actually type something like that out & submit it.

It felt just like I thought it would: RIDICULOUS. And stupid. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

So anyway, those really DO look awesome. I had no idea yours had machined parts inside them (although given your attention to detail, I could have safely assumed it ;)). Are the inside mechanisms for show, or do they serve a physical purpose?

Again, nice work! :thumbsup :thumbsup

I've got those e-mails before. :facepalm

Everything you see works! Nothing is for show. This is a mechanical, functional prop. A series of spring tensioned pistons allow the blades to pop open at the flick of a switch!

Thanks for the kind words, guys. After a decade it's nice to be able to actually enjoy putting a couple of these together. :)

There are none to sell. It was just a fortunate set of circumstances that lead to me getting a couple back to build-up for their new owners.

I wish I could afford to have one myself, but as I've demonstrated time and time again, I can't keep anything.

Thanks for asking though.

How much would u sell a pair of these for?

They are beyond cool

First the canes and now this....admitt it you love to inflict pain on yourself! :D

I still hate the canes. It's actually quite nice to see these again. Rather like visiting an X.

After the smoke clears and there's been a little distance, a couple beers ain't so bad. :cool

C'mon Bro do a run, i will come down for the run and help.

Which would consist of me supplying the tacos and Ale! :p

I always admired your DD stuff Rylo. its one of the things that brought me to the RPF after I couldn't believe someone had offered them. The best part is that they are functional. how cool is that!!

Thanks again guys.

Just to be 100% clear. I'm getting PMs from people asking if I have any additional pieces for sale. Thank you for very much for your interest, but I do not. These pieces belong to people already; I'm just completing the build-out.

Again, I have no more of these and will not be offering them in the future. These were not cheap a decade ago and they would cost a fortune to produce today.

That said, these pieces shall remain retired.

Thanks, man. Very cool of you to mention that. :)
