Daredevil PVC Mask. How to repaint?

Hi everyone!

First time cosplayer here. Been wanting to create a costume for a long time now, but I'm just now finding the time to actually start on something. I am working on a Daredevil cosplay based on the Netflix costume. I bought this mask off of Amazon a few weeks ago and when it arrived, I wasn't overly excited about the color that was used on it, so I would like to repaint it. It looks maroon/red in the picture on Amazon, but it actually has more of a pinkish hue to it. I would prefer to use some kind of spray paint, but I worry about cracking and peeling. I'm also wondering if I will need to use a primer before repainting. Any suggestions?

I would suggest sanding it with 400 grit sander paper so the spray paint would stick better to it. It also can be done with an airbrush which would have great results or both.
