Dann's Blaster Projects - (Latest) FM ANH Hero Project from Nov 2022

nice call moving the upper forward! Never though of that.

for me, one of the most valuable mods was replacing the grips, which usually means cutting and filing the grip frame to match a new set. Denixes are just too *square" shaped for me

Man, you really went to town on the upper where it screws in! Nice work! Does it really need to be moved that far back to be more accurate? Looks great! I’d keep as much metal as you can, though if you do use printed parts I’m sure it will look awesome!

Yeah, I may not change the grips, since I reshaped them right along with the grip frame, but I WILL swap the screws for a proper escutcheon and slotted screw. Otherwise, I definitely would change the grips.

Here's some pics of other versions of the C96 in regards to the upper and lower alignment. Now, in the shots I posted earlier, I said that the upper was a little TOO far forward, and it definitely is, but not by much. Notice the milled sections and how they line up on other examples. First is my PROPER ANH Hero, with an MGC base.

Next, my 3D printed Greedo Killer

And a solid aluminum cast from a real C96

And my OTHER Denix, (I wish I had used my other MGC for this) my Hoth blaster. I've made some modifications to this Denix, but nowhere near as much as the one I'm working on now. The upper and lower are in the same spots as all unmodified Denixes.

See how much further back that upper is? Once you've seen it, you CANNOT unsee it!!

Made more progress last night.

Shish, I can't believe how much I've changed this thing! Some of the mods are really subtle, but anyway, aluminum cast for comparison.

I didn't think these things sold for very much in the first place, though.

I've repeatedly seen them sell for around fifty bucks...

I guess they were originally toys for kids?

Could just as easily be an old movie prop casting that was just copied over and over and over.

I know one seller on eBay has been trying to sell one as a screen used prop from one of those older WWII movies. "Where Eagles Dare", maybe? "Eagle has Landed"? One of those.

Been working more on the Denix "upgrades".

Lots and lots of work in this guy!

Working on adjusting the printed part models (need to lengthen the bolt, shorten the sight leaf, make some modifications to the hammer), but I sprayed a quick coat of flat black on the lower to see how it was looking.

The trigger is the Denix trigger, reshaped and added a bit of Apoxie Sculpt to the rear. Grips and frame have gotten smaller. Haven't decided what to do about the mag well plate, yet. May engrave, may cut out and replace with a printed one.

Keep in mind, these are old leftover DEC parts, but hey, they're still nice!

Since those pics were taken, I've cut out the magazine floor plate, and hollowed out the inside of the hammer area. More pics soon!

Here's a couple more pics, I've made an initial finishing pass. Still some work to do yet.

I've forgotten the proper size for the mystery disc, is this too big?

I need to decide on my method for mating the upper and lower. I may have to draw something up, since I've filled in the screw hole under the barrel, and the holes for the pins, though since the upper has been moved, they wouldn't work anyway.

I'd like this to be a mechanical connection, and relatively easy to take back apart if need be. I may model something that'll go inside the magazine well, grab onto the 1/4-20 rod for the scope bracket, and then somehow attach to the upper. Just need to picture it in my head.

You've set a new benchmark for denix mods. Amazing work!!!
