Has anyone made or seen replicas of their helmets? I'd love to have a replica of the one in the foreground in this pic, LEDs and all :)

I'd love to have replicas too, they look damn cool.

Have you seen the Medicom RAH 12" figures? They're great :D

Wow, I too would love to see replicas.

A few weeks ago I went to a Daft Punk concert, and their show was awesome ! Damn loud (I had to go buy ear plugs for my GF and me, since we couldn´t take the level of loudness they played the music) but great integration of music and stage performance. With stage performance I mean the guys sitting in their pyramid on stage and lights and sounds and pictures all around them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm_J5HpIYSE

What I hadn´t seen before were their new outfits. They wore jumpsuits that had EL wire sewed on, and with all lights out the guys looked like 3D comic figures. A great experience, I haven´t enjoyed a concert that much in years, and even the oldtimers like Genesis couldn´t keep up with that. Me and my GF were among the oldest in the audience, being mid-30ies, but what the heck.

Yes Daft Punk is the best French 'band' of all time IMHO.

The originals were made by LED Effects.
They 'll ak you $65000 to make you one:wacko:wacko:wacko

Good luck, I'd love to own one as well.

Never seen it before, but wow, it looks awesome. Sort of looks like Kroenen's helmet when the LEDs are turned-off. I'd like a replica, too.

But.. $65,000? :eek

Wasn´t the Schwarzeneggers Mr.Frost-suit in Batman and Robin (?) said to have cost 300.000,00 US-$ due to the amount of blue LED´s they built into the suit ?

I can´t believe the timeframe they stated for the completion of such a helmet, one year seems to be a ridiculously long time for a professional project of that sort, but the cost sure is believeable.
I´d say that installing the LED´s and electronics would easily take up a whole week, with testing and error checking maybe even longer.

But we´ll only know that when someone´s finished a helmet replica :) So, who´s gonna tackle this project ? ;)

The more dome shaped helmet reminds me of Mospeada: Genesis Climber and the Cyclone body Armor...

Obvously not "identical" in the sense of the word [much cooler looking especially with the LED component!] but I'd dare say it was inspired!

I'd love one of Daft Punk's or the Genesis Climber helmets! :cool

those videos are great. i really like the replica that guy made on cosplay.com

makes me want the other one even more, lol

Those are two different sets of helmets in your pics... the ones without lighting are from Human After All, and their current models. They look similar, but are really quite different in all the details.

They don't light up (at all) and don't have any other components than the gloves. I could go on for a while about any other differences... Guy-Man's dome liner, ear ECGs and jawline are all different, as are Thomas' jawline, mouth and visor shape.

The illuminated helmets are from Discovery, same with the backpacks and wrist electronics, which were necessary for the helms to be powered/controlled, but that was in '97, so I doubt it'd be as problematic nowadays to produce one of these.

Not to say it wouldn't be an incredibly hard task.

I researched this a while back because I couldn't find anyone else doing the same thing... I haven't seen an accurate replica yet, unfortunately.

the thing I dont undertsand why wont the compnay just sell the helmets without the electronics to save money. Cause Daft Punks movie, Electroma was a low budget movie which had lots of extras with those Helmets that didnt seemed to have no electronics.

The background helmets were vacuum-formed and didn't hold up when viewed closely. A display quality helmet would run quite a bit more, and I don't think any major company would be willing to invest that much into it. Producing a set of Daft Punk helmets is still one of my dream projects.

But both helmets are deceivingly complex, enough so that even 10 years after the release of Discovery (and the unveiling of their collective robot persona) I have not seen a single replica of either helmet made available. :(

Just out of curiosity, what would one imagine to be the going rate (were they available) on a finished Human After All helm, either Thomas' two-piece silver chromed head with visor or Guy-Man's gold chromed base with smoked dome?

I actually contacted them back in 2001 and they won't because they are a part of Daft Punk's image and are hence protected.

I used to have a copy of the silver helmet I made out of Sculpy, but the paint never dried properly so I only wore it once to a Halloween party in 2001.

i was asked to make one a while back,

i know i could do it but it would be very time consuming. i also have a friend or 2 in the electronics field that could tackle the leds.

i eventually told the guy i wouldnt do it because he didnt earn a great deal
and i would charge him a lot. i said he would thank me later..

he has taken on the challenge himself if im not mistaken and its looking not bad. ill say one thing ,hes a determind little sod so i tip my hat towards his direction.

there are pics but they are on a fellow members website that i dont care for much so i wont advertise it.

Not to raise a "dead" topic, but:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE-6ZLjkFfo Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo helmet (gold one, a bit oversized, but fully electronic)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUK_b0dp9wE Thomas Bangalter Helmet (Silver one, decent but without electronics)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXaVilqeB5Y&feature=related Thomas Bangalter Helmet (With Electronics; one of those LED scroller belt buckles.)

All helmets are relatively "complete", and fan-made, using easy tools/processes or easy to find materials.

I personally am going to begin construction on a Guy-Manuel helmet today or tomorrow in cardboard, which will be structurally hardened with bondo and/or fiberglas before I attempt to mold it. It will be based off the Boba Fett helmet templates from WizardOfFlight on http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/

... Will be making video of the process, and putting it on Youtube. Mine will probably be about the size it's supposed to be as per "Electroma"... Also, I have a Thomas Bangalter helmet in the works, but I've neglected it now for months.
