Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron / R.A.M. Build

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

wow stunning work! I've just joined this forum just to see all these Daft Punk Helmets been created! you & other people on here are doing amazing replicas.

Thankyou for showing us your process, it is making my hands itchy and getting my creative juices flowing with excitement.

I think I am going have to get a Daft Punk Project going :)

Keep up the amazing work dude.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

What did you use for the round "ears" shape? Found item?

The whole process is logged on this thread or on my Guy-Manuel thread. Both Helmets use alot of the same processes so I may not have mentioned every little detail. The ears were formed from MDF with lazer-cut detailed acrylic inserts and then vaccum formed over.

Thank you so much, i'm glad your enjoying my builds.

you should definatley get busy on your own, its good to watch others make, but so much more rewarding to do it for yourself!

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Your helmet looks amazing! Wow. I can only dream of some day being able to create something with that much quality!

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Very awesome!

While not some people's favorites, I do like the Tron Helmets the best... They are cleaner and simpler looking.

I also hate the gold guy helmets... I hate gold in general... I looks "tacky."

So... :D

Yours rocks so far!

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Thanks for the comments guys, had another set back this week (i'm starting to **** myself off with the severe lack of progress in recent weeks) But i'm back at it this weekend, my schedule is cleared ( i hope :wacko ) for the next 2 weeks, so its full steam ahead.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Spent a bit of time with the back of this bucket. getting the raised sections rounded off really help the overall look. glad i took the time to do it.

Next on the list of improvments was the chin section. It was very obvious that the chin section was considerably squared. this was something i had always considered in the planning, however looking over my build and comparing it to recent pics of Guys post Tron lid, i wasn't happy

I attached a piece of flat styrene the same size and shape i wanted the flat panel to be and then filled in around the sides with filler.

A few rounds of sanding and filling and it was starting to take shape.

I'm going to sqaure off the visor before i completely finish the chin, but tomorrow is another day :)

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Had a minor set back, forget to tell you all. I noticed that some of the lazer cut detail on the ear pieces was almost completely covered with layers of paint. For some reason 3 circles were not as pronounced as the rest of the details.

I tried to clear the paint away, put they were far to small. In my attempts i managed to do more damage than good, so i had no choice but to cover them up. Not entirely happy about this, but I reckon it doesn't look too bad??

What do you think??

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Time for the visor. I used the same technique as the chin to square it off a bit.

After about a day of sanding, painting, filling and repeating it looked like this.

and after another day of the same, i was finally happy.

I reckon i'll need about a day or so to get it blemish free, then it'll be a some serious painting and sanding before casting.
Its getting exciting.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Not much progress over the weekend, been preparing for a job interview tomorrow morning. Once i'm done there i'll be working on the prep for moulding. Updates in the next 24 hrs, and maybe a new job too??
