Cylon Raider decal question

I am working on my Cylon Raider model and I'm going to use the decals. I won't be painting on the top stripes because I suck at such things-painting, curved lines, masking off, etc.

The decals will lay across a couple of raised details as I'm sure you all know. Now will they fall nicely over those raised parts or will they be all wonky and not fit right and look like crap?

Thanks for the advice!

Just throwing a thought out there.

Make a xerox (or 3) of the decal. Cut it out and use that as a template for masking. Then paint over the area and remove the tape.

If that doesn't work look into decal setting solution. Several companies make it. The trick I've heard is to get the right brand for the specific decals / kit you have on hand.

Posting who made the kit or perhaps showing pictures might get some better help.

Good luck and post pictures when you are finished.

Old version would be Monogram, the newer version is Revell.

When I built mine back when it was first released I just painted them on.

It's the newer released one, Revell- same issue for either one.

I like the idea about the photo copy and use that as a mask. Maybe I'll try something new..

Thanks for the tips.

Also if you use the decals, they need to be stuck to a gloss surface or they won't stick well and you get silvering...it's where there's air trapped under the decal. The setting solutions however good won't work well if you have a matt surface.

I would paint them on if you possibly can..

Cheers

The black stripes simply MUST be painted on. I used good masking tape and stretched it to get the curve right.

Then I gently scraped off the parts that didn't come out perfect (around those raised parts you were talking about) with an Exacto knife.
Good luck!
