CW Dark Arrow - Crisis on Earth X

Hi! I'm Ihsan, a Green Arrow fan and prop enthusiast from Singapore. This is my first ever thread on the RPF forums. Figured i would try documenting my build for CW's Dark Arrow from the Crisis on Earth X crossover.

This is my third "Arrow" related costume. The first being a Season 1 Arrow, followed by a Season 5. With every costume, I always attempt to get it as close to "screen-accurate" as possible.

1. The Suit

Just like my Season 5 costume, I commissioned Costume Replica Cave to make the main suit. They did a fantastic job once again in getting this suit made to my measurements. Real leather, very comfortable and fits me like a glove.

2. The Quiver

Looking at some photos from behind-the-scenes, the Dark Arrow quiver is roughly similar in design to Green Arrow's but with additional red piping and a German SS arrowhead symbol at the top. I built mine following a similar process as building my Green Arrow quiver;

First up, i used EVA foam to form the main shape of the quiver. I then layered the foam with wood glue and plaster bandage, to add some durability and strength. I've thought of using fiberglass cloth and resin, but those aren't available here in Singapore at local hardware stores.

After the wood glue and plaster bandage has dried fully, I then glued a layer of 500D Cordura with contact cement. Next, was creating the pattern for the leather parts of the quiver. I used 3-4 oz veg-tan tooling leather and traced the pattern onto it. The decorative lines were carved in using a swivel knife.

As for the red SS arrowhead symbol, I suspect that it's an additional raised piece that was glued onto the black leather pieces. I created this using an additional piece of red Italian veg-tan leather. The great thing about using veg-tan leather is that I can burnish the edges instead of leaving it raw. :)

Next, comes the red piping seen in some parts of the quiver. I did quite a bit of research and watching Youtube videos on how to sew piping onto leather. However, I was never able to brainstorm and figure out how I could implement the techniques onto my quiver. Having grown a little impatient, I decided to skimp a little on this part. I created the red piping using some faux leather and piping cord. It was then glued onto my leather pattern which i had already dyed black.

Next comes the fun part which is gluing the finished leather pattern onto the shell with contact cement. I then drilled some holes in the required spots and attached some open back screw posts. As for the hole at the bottom of the quiver, I simply used a piece of EVA foam that was layered with Cordura, and hot-glued it to the bottom. Here, are my finished Green Arrow and Dark Arrow leather quivers. :)

Currently, I'm in the process of building the mask and quiver straps. Looking forward to updating this thread soon. Let me know what you guys think so far!
