Steve that is a fantastic and a very quick build.
I took the plunge and ordered the light kit from MIM today. Just need to finish up with it.

Very good job indeed as we should expect nothing less from you!!!

Very nice job on this! Makes me want to go watch the series again. I also enjoyed some of your modeling tips, just wish I had the time to actual build some of my models.

Mmm. I have the same issue. But my biggest issue, is even tho I don't have the time to finish any of the models I have. But I have this compulsion to buy new models I see. Even ones I already have. I have a stack of Polar Lights TOS Enterprises. Like 7 of em.

Thanks guys. Just use a Sunday. Even if it's a few parts together in time you get them built and your glad. Don't let the wife stop you either. Reminder her what some husbands can do for a hobby. ;)

I'm a bit in the same boat with the stack of kit's I have, though I feel as though I may be breaking out a little by finally tackling the NX-01...just ordered the lighting kit from "NicksDad" today...still waiting on the Aztec Decals from Acreation though...

Honestly Steve, watching your build of this has really helped me get into the mind set that I can do it too so, again...thanks for that.
Now the confession part of my post...
I also own one of the BIG Polar Lights Enterprises, one of the ones that was issued BEFORE they started including the Aztec Decals with them and after seeing some of the builds I've seen on those I'm completely Intimidated.
Have you built one of the big Polar Lights Enterprises Steve and what might you charge someone to build one up?
Thanks again for your time!

Mutant,

If you get around to your 1/350 Refit, I highly recommend using the Golden Artist Paint's Fluid Acrylic Interference Paints. I'm using them on mine, I've done a few test cards and the results are stunning. A tip though, for the primary aztec patterns, spray a mist of blue first, then mask the aztec pattern, then mist the green. I ran tests both ways to see if it mattered and it definitely does. I'm in full prep mode for Wonderfest 2011 in May but when I get back I plan on finishing the tests by making a paint test card with all 4 interference pearls (Blue, Green, Gold, and Red), but dont use Duplicolor Sandable White Primer, it lifts up from the masks and if that happens you have to sand down and start all over :/

Thanks for the suggestions!
Though, I will probably farm the build out depending on how well my NX-01 build goes.

So acreation... you don't offer any Aztecing Decals then for the Big Enterprise? I contacted Polar Lights to see if I could purchase a set from them but they didn't even respond...

Very true, I shared this article with my wife and it gave her a proper perspective
(allowing me to build more :) )

I do have decals for the 1:350 Refit. I just always assume paint for that one. Plenty of people prefer the decals but I just cant do that one without the full paint job :D

I know the feeling about collecting models. I build about 1 a month and I have 273 unbuilt kits right now!!!!
I am 48 at 1 model a month. You do the math. And I am still buying more!!!

It's an addiction.:lol

Uh, the refit, painting would be a nightmare for me. So, I will be getting some of your decals. I promise you that!!!!

Yes I did build on for myself. I made it to be an RC under water dhip but changed my mind at the end. As a aresult I never wen as far as I could have with the build but it's OK.

Thanks Mutant,
Steve

...but it's OK.
*SPLUTTER...GASP* Looks a little better than "OK" to me Steve! Under water RC you say? You'd have to cover it in copper and rivet's if you did that...I think you went the right way with it.
Thanks for those pics! I'll stop derailing your thread now.:)

Love how the NX turned out, Steve! Really authentic looking!
Your big E is very nice too!
Can i ask, in respect to decaling the 1:350 Enterprise 1701, would you reccomend base coating in gloss white or with pearl white? Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and congrats again on a wonderful buld!

Rich

Ah just plain Ole gloss white. And the Aztecs were easier to do on this smooth ship. But Acreations I would have rather used.

As for the NX she's been sitting in the shop with 2 and a half cans of clear sitting on her surface. I checked this morning and there's no more smell so she must be ready to handle. It has been in the 90s the last two days. 90s again today. I got to say though I just hate this weather too.

NO AC in the garage and over 100. Can't I just have a constant 68-75 degrees?

More today and thanks for the great replies. I'll be putting on the last round of kit supplied decals today and that's it except for a bit of paint here and there.

Steve

I just caught you in an outrageous lie! You said you haven't been able to work on the model because of the high humidity because of two days of non stop rain, BUT your location on the forum lists you living in Los Angeles. The gig is up!

Ah but we did have rain only a few days ago and for weeks before that. So much the entire basin was under water and the RC flying filed I fly at un usable. It took a crew a week to clean off the runway. The rains and snow has been so heavy Jerry Brown just called off the trout we've had for years.

The water table is so near the surface that if it rains for an hour my backyard floods. My do loves it. Now it's in the 90s but rain again tomorrow. So the gig is still on. ;) Go figure. This is a dangerous planet.
