Thanks for the info regarding the pole reinforcment. And thanks for your thoughts about the decals. I could never find anyone who had used them or any reviews about them. Didn't know if the were any good or if they looked ok. Couldn't get a really good look at them on the Acreation site. After reading your thoughts about them I will be getting them. THANK YOU !! The decals look Fantastic!!

Those decals look great! I've heard of Solvaset but haven't been able to find it at my LHS. Sure does the trick from what I can see in your pics. You're doing a splendid job on this ship. Your client will be thrilled I'm sure.

Thanks Steve. And Space Rat. I agree with you. I couldn't find a thing about them. And terrible pictures on their site. So the client and I took a roll of the dice there. I bought a set for myself too. Someone ought to tell these guys.

A. Get some good pictures.

B. Get someone on the forums to review them as I did.

C. Send the reviewer a free set! LOL!

Thanks guys,

Steve

I have to admit that I was a little skeptical that aluminum would be the right base color when you started. After seeing the ship in a solid color I was surprised, after seeing the decals on it I'm sold...

Well thanks for that. But credit where credit is due. Doug Drexler and I have known each other for years. We are both WW2 fans, historians, buffs, what ever. When I took a close look at his renders he sent me one thing jumped out at me. B-17, flight aluminum.

I called him on it and he said I was 100 % correct. Plus there's lots of little parts on the ship that are from WW2 planes. Like the P-38 Lightning. I'll see if you guys can spot them.

I totally agree with you on the use of aluminum for your basecoat. Steel or titanium would be too dark making the aztec decals disappear. I used MM aluminum metalizer with the aztec decals on my 1/1000 scale NX-01:

Steve,
This is a fantastic build with so much great info I've been taking notes! Thanks for taking the time to not only do this but also for documenting it an posting it here. I've been following it since early on and just now decided to get your thoughts on something...

Here's my question:
I've got a stack of these models in my attic that I've been itching to build for years, but I have this hang up and it has everything to do with mounting these kit's on a base.
Not only do I not have the room for them to be sitting around on counter-tops and desk tops, I just have to hang these Trek Ships, you know?
I've been wondering for a while if it would be possible to not only mount the power supply inside these ships but also to have them be capable of being turned on and off through the use of a small remote?
Have you ever played with this idea?
Thanks again for your time!

Best you can do is hard wire them and use the power cable to hang them from. Once they are finished there's no way to get inside and replace batteries which never last that long anyway. Well not unless you make some kind of access hatch. Remote? I don't think you can do that easily.

You are most welcome. Thanks for the kind comments Mutant.

And Steve. What a nice job you did on the 1/1000. Excellent!

That's one issue that keeps me from purchasing a lot of models: SPACE.

If you hard wire them you can use a remote. I have this done with my Masters Replica Enterprise. But it sits on a large pedestal of its own and all the wires are hidden within that. Simply leave the power switch on and plug it in. And purchase a Wireless Remote Control Switch. You can turn the power on/off with the little transmitter/remote that it comes with. But you'll still have cords and transformers to deal with. Not easy to do when hanging them.

I always thought the warp pylon sections on the saucer looked like the turbochargers for the p38

Bingo. The gold colored insets are the super chargers. They are close anyway.

Compare to the white one? You mean the refit? I thought at first and easier build. I don't think that anymore. And the decals are harder even though the refit has them all over the hulls it doesn't have quite the detail to mess with meaning that you don't have to cut the Aztecs into so many individual sections.

Damn! Forgot to post, post.

Well today was another day of things getting in the way. Shop cleaning. Had to paint a mask. Way too much email. So I got a few more hours in. But tomorrow I should be able to do 10 hours straight. And I hope to get the saucer section done.

Here's some more pictures.

Thanks Steve. I personally think they ought to send you two of everything they make, one for your review and one for your own use. I'm sure after reading your review of them, [fellow RPF members and the like] they will see a BIG increase in orders.

Thanks Space Rat. Gary did send me a lighting kit and I thank him for that. And BTW if you want one of Gary's lighting kits use this email address.

b9factory@verizon.net Hell get you one out right away. Nice thing is about this kit is, you can use it as is or add as many lights as you want without a problem. Will hook up to any 4.5 volt power supply and rated for 700-1000 mah. Very commonly found at Radio Shack.

As for the Solvaset: SOLVASET Decal Setting Solution My LHS carries it but I found this in a beat on Google.

That's the stuff. Funny this is this stuff would just destroy and breakup a Polar Lights in box decal. But what ever Acreations uses is better. I found I could still brush down these decals after applying it.

Eureka! HobbyTown USA didn't have Solvaset but Hobbies Unlimited, the small family-owned hobbyshop in my old neighborhood, does. It's on my way home from work so I can pick up a bottle today. Woohoo!
