Custom Pirate Skull "Chest"

I did this custom one-off prop for a customer and thought some of you might get a kick out of it. It's meant to be a 17th century treasure chest made from a skull. The front "key" unlocks the chest at the forhead revealing the cavity of gold coins. A fun project and something quite different for me.

I've got to show that to my brother - he's into the whole pirate thing and he'll probably go nuts over it. Great job, very creative, fantastic execution.

Thats really cool looking. Should have a gold tooth or two, tho. :lol

Makes me think of the skull in Vice Versa (at least, I think that was the movie).

Nice piece.

Very cool. :thumbsup

What's with the two little "knobs" near the front of the forehead? They look like wood hole plugs...

Yes, those little wooden knobs are carpenter's plugs. Since I couldn't screw into the plaster-like skull, I needed something to hold the hook loop in place.

Here is another custom chest I made for someone:

It's stained pine, all scratch built. The debossed parts of the lower half of the box are actually textured wall paper that I stained, painted, gold leafed, then aged.

Kind regards,
Indy
