Custom ISD Shield Domes - DONE

Here's the start of a little side project that I have on the go, a couple shield domes for the RC Star Destroyer. I have the first one roughed in, I did some adjustments to the triangular plates after these pics where taken

Here it is as a comparison piece to my 1/2222 shield dome, significantly larger.

Once completed, these will be added to a fellow builders ISD.

Finished roughing in the second dome. I added the outer triangular plate to the first, and I cut some round pieces which will

be the base for these domes to be glued to.

Here's an update on the domes. Mounted, puttied, filed and sanded, I added some rod and detail bits, now I'll scratch the support struts on the bottom.

Here's a long overdue update. I initially planned to cast the detail pieces around the "crown" of the dome, but I abandoned that idea when I glued some pieces to one dome and noticed that the detail pieces where far too big for the dome.

I cut some brass rod, and sharpened the points. (I found myself pulling these little buggers out of my finger every so often while handling them.) Once fixed to the top edge, I drilled out and cut twenty-four small styrene squares and slid one on each spire for added detail.

Wow! that is Geodesic small detail hell. They look great and thank God its you and not me. I am not sure I would have the patience to cut all those small triangles...
