my son wants to be curious george for halloween so i figured i would be the man with the yellow hat. at least for trick or treating anyway.

i plan on dying some white pants and a shirt yellow and will try to find some fabric for the tie. i think i'll try to scratch build the hat.

my main question is what i should do/use for the boots? any ideas?

made one for work to go along with the George at book store reading time. went for a "realistic" route with brown canvas gaiters, similar to the book.

for this picture, maybe some 18 eyelet lineman's boots painted brown.

Aw crap! Size 5 in mens is...6.5 in womens! $45 is a freaking great deal and too bad my feet are size five womens...

i really like the museum replicas boots, but theres no way i would get my size 12s in there! ;)

i think i'll have to go the gaiter route.

I did a quick Google search and the best that I can find for this type of hat are Stetsons and 10 gallon hat. Both are tall crowned with the 10 gallon hat looking the closest to what TMitYH wears.

10 gallon hat is refering to the braiding around the brim, not the style of the hat. hehe but unless you are a cowboy you probably don't care.

However, do a simple google image search for "Old west hat" and you will find a lot that look similar.

Curious george came out in 1941, and the safari hats are probably a real world respresentation.

is it difficult (or even possible) to reshape a cowboy hat? if i got one it would probably look right on if i could get the indents out and flatten the rim.

Do you have a hat shop in your area (as opposed to a store that sells hats)? A good hat guy might be able to block the hat into the desired shape. Here in L.A., a shop was able to take a traditional fur fedora and block it into a porkpie for me.

Ironically, I think Baron's did my reblock! I bought the hat at Hollywood Hatters and they sent it out for the reblock -- I think to Baron's.

that baron hat is awesome! too bad it's so expensive.

i will look into finding a local hat shop. i might be able to find something in the minneapolis area.

i've got white pants and a shirt coming in the mail and picked up some yellow dye. the boots should be here anyday also.

i wanted to show off the hat i won on eBay last night. now i need to figure out how to dye or paint it yellow.
