Cthulhu Idol Build

Hey Nick, I wanted to say you did an amazing job on this. I've been following it for awhile now, maybe since it was only 3 or 4 pages of comments. i wanted to say thank you for showing what you have i was able to learn a lot about it. Your work really inspired me to build my own idol! Can't wait to see more sir!

We are slowly creeping up on October...

". . . can’t git away . . . draws ye . . . ye know summ’at’s comin’, but ’tain’t no use . . . "

I think of this thread every time I log into TSW and see the devastation wrought by the thing those men brought back with them from the sea...

Nick, I just discovered your project, and it's absolutely incredible. I'd love to get one of these to put on my desk! Keep up the excellent work, impatiently waiting for updates!

Thanks!

I just finished the secret part of the project and am now trying to perfect my casting technique for the statue.

This is great. Love the way you go all the way and make it a "real" product with box and all. Absolutely love your sculpt. Very well designed!!!!
Me want to part with money NOW.

Boo, back at you. What is more scary, multi-vision Cthulhi, or an out of this world, clean, neat and organized workspace? I think it speaks to your success, and it is something I've noted throughout your process - and all very impressive. We're all excited about more updates, the good, the bad luck, and the non-Euclidean! Thanks.

I'm struggling with some resin issues right now. I think I chose the wrong resin for the project and am going to have to order some different stuff.

I was really excited about using smooth on's Onyx Fast black resin but I think it is kicking a little too fast and getting a little too hot at the large volume I'm dealing with. I keep getting weird surface bubbles/blisters where there were none with the smooth cast 300.

I think I may switch to the 320 or 321.

I wish. Outside the edges of every picture are piles of books and supplies. It's all movie magic, baby!

Very exciting, Nick.

Seeing your squadron of idols is... pretty cool.

Good luck this month. I, like so many, hope this comes together for you in a way that meets your high personal standard. Really enthused.

God I really, really, really want one of these.

Are you still going forward with that custom box? If not, any other ideas on how to pack it?

I'd really love to see these idols wrapped in a similar way to the Maltese Falcon in the movie of the same name. Give it a bit of really creepy realism. Like lots of brown paper and newspaper and twine.

Even get some 1920s photocopied travel decals to put on the box you're shipping them in.

Your box is fantastic though and far be it from me to tell you your business of course, just got that idea looking at these amazing idols. Looking forward to more updates!

That's what I'm shooting for at this point.

I've just about finished building my third mold for this project which should fix the little things that were bugging about my previous molds. I've figured out the correct resin to use and also just about got my methodology worked out for casting the piece cleanly as well.

The other secret elements are almost finished as well. I should be revealing this stuff soon. Can't wait.

Thanks for everyone patience. As the infamous Walter White once said "I'm trying to create a Superior Product!" but also as the great Alan Shepard also said "Let's light this candle!"
