Cthulhu bust model

haha I didn't even realize that. If you can do that in sculptris you should certainly grab zbrush! I'm actually a character/creature animator/modeler and I do a lot of digital sculpture for fun. Zbrush is a fantastic tool. if you decide to pick it up feel free to hit me up with any questions. if you want to have your mind blown go and check out zbrush central, if you haven't already.

Hi Gregoriarts,

I'd love to print one of your sculpts! I found an example of a really nice Zbrush prepared sculpt right here:

Skyrim: Dawnguard Vampire Lord by Vsions - Thingiverse

The artist carefully prepared the mesh for potential overhang of the arms. The issue with printing is overhang. Until recently this was solved by printing a very simple support structure to support overhanging meshes. This was done in a very cluttered manner.

Right now I am testing a new way of support structures that models a mesh around your object and gives you a very nice structure that gives you an easier to break away the structure.

I suggest just sending a non prepared model, I'd really like to see if it is super easy to just put the mesh into cura, print it and then remove the supports by hand. In my opinion this is how easy printing should be so I'd say just send it over and we'll see :) .

The largest dimensions are 205x205x210 millimeter box shaped.

If you send me an OBJ/STL/raw Zbrush mesh that's fine. I have Zbrush here and Cinema4D so I can prepate it in any way.

Let me know what you think and we'll set it up!

Have a nice weekend,

Daan

Ok thanks for the specs. I'll work on getting you a zbrush or obj file by next week sometime. I'd like to atleast cover the cost of materials for this awesome favor...let me know. By the way that dawnguard sculpt is beautiful. I totally dig that kind of stuff.

Thanks a lot! you can send me an email at: daanpolnl AT gmail DOT com

The dawnguard is supernice. It is constructed in such a way that it doens't need supports (they are build underneath the arms).

Good luck!

So, put on the fresh coat of primer after finally had a change to sand it a little. And a lot of flaws are standing out now, tiny holes along the base where the support structure was for example. Also a very rough patch on the top of the head which I hoped was almost invisible after primer, the opposite however is true...

More filling, more sanding, more priming, more waiting to come!

Nope! But there is an update coming up to convert it to a dual extruder/head set-up. Not happening yet though :)

You spoke of the absolute joy of removing the support material. There is water soluble printing filament, in the future you could print your supports in that material, soak your print in a bucket of water and *poof* easy removal.
