Creature/monster cosplays?

I'd love to make a monster or creature cosplay, but I'm unfamiliar with pop culture movies, anime and video games. Do you have suggestions?

There must be something that inspired you or caught your interest in the movie-anime-gaming culture that brought you here.
Most of the time it's something you grew up.

I suggest something you're a fan of. A fan of Star Wars? there's hundreds of characters right there. Like super heroes? one hundred thousand to choose from.
Whatever you choose you picked a great place to be to start running ideas.

Ah man there's so many!! Predator would be cool or alien,Kaiju from pacific rim, any hellboy characters. Hard to suggest just do research and any that you like maybe gve it shot!

Movies draw inspiration from all forms of story telling. I am sure that something must have caught your interest to want to make a creature costume.
If not, why the sudden interest?

I would like to help you, but without knowing what you want to make we cant be of much help to you.
In the end it should be a costume of a character/creature you like. It would be a bummer to walk around as a character that you don't even like.

You should also take into consideration your experience, budget, comfort, and space.

Experience: It is fun to experiment, but make sure you know what you are doing. Ask questions here, watch tutorial videos at www.stanwinstonschool.com , and youtube. Also make sure you follow instructions so you don't waste the supplies on failed attempts.

Budget: Depending on how you make the creature the cost can very drastically. The price of a creature that is fabricated versus a creature that is sculpted, molded and cast can very greatly.

Comfort: Will the costume be breathable/hot? Will the costume cut or pinch you in any areas? Will you be able to see, and move around in it well? Can you wear it for long periods of time/ How long do you think you can wear it for without passing out? Will you need a wrangler to guide you while in the costume? Can you find someone to be your wrangler? A wrangler is the person who guides you around while you are in costume. Keep you hydrated. Help you in and out of the costume. Keep people from pulling, poking, and punching you while in costume?

Space: If you make a huge creature costume having space to store it will be a necessity. Otherwise it will be a big eyesore in the corner of some room. That is why costumes that you can hang on a rack or store in a bin are so common.

I have 3 creature costumes I am wanting to make. Slash from the Ninja Turtles, Aeon Calcos from Soul Calibur V, and From From Chrono Trigger.

Aeon has a tail so sitting will be difficult. It will also be a latex costume so it wont breath well so I will need someone to make sure I can move, and stay alive in it. It will take up a bit of space when storing, but I am sure I can fold it up with little trouble and store it in a bin this time.
Slash has no tail, and the head will come off easier so I wont need a wangler for that. I will also be able to just hang it on a coat hanger when I am done with it.
Frog from Chrono Trigger is manly just a creature head, chest armor, and medieval clothing so it is easy to store, mobile, and I can take the head off no problem.

While I like all those costumes the bigger ones are the ones I look forward to making. I can fabricate well, but I can not sew very good. So I avoid the most comfortable costume for one I have the most experience making.

I hope that helps.

My advice is make something you love!! It's the only way to really finish a project like this. If you're not obsessed to make the creature you'll give up when you hit road blocks. Believe me, no matter how you plan or how much experience you have you will get stuck on parts. Whatever you choose good luck.
