Creature from the Black Lagoon for the Jan-Feb Sculpture Contest Entry

Hello I'm entering my take on the Creature from the Black Lagoon bust in 1/4 scale. I will be using grey van aken plastalina with a wire armature. I just saw the post today and I know there isn't much time but what the heck I'll give it a try. I want to do a set of the Universal monsters so this is a good time to start. I've been sculpting since I was a kid started out making custom action figures and garage kits but nothing serious. I took a long break until just a few years ago I got back sculpting and drawing again. So I hope I can get it done in time and you all like it.

Here is what I got done last night. I decided to make the skeletal structure out of aluminum wire and milliput for strength. Now today I'm going to and the detail. I'll post up more pics soon.

Here is some more WIP pics. It was nice just sat all day yesterday and sculpted. I got quite a bit done lot more to go but I'm liking it. Put up a card table in the family room and hung out with the wife and kids while they watched some TV. Going to work some more tonight after the kids go to bed hope to get a couple hours in.

Thanks so much I really appreciate it. The eyes are just some Darice 12mm wood beads I bought at the local craft store it was a variety pack of all different kinds

This is a very interesting take on the Creature. A lot more ferocious looking. I can't wait to see the finished sculpt with all the texturing done.

Well I just finished my Creature entry. This was a fun piece it's nice to be sculpting again. Here are some more WIP pics and the finale shots and a short 360 clip hope you like it.

Garlicbread Thanks so much. I always had a love for the Universal monsters since a young age and have wanted to sculpted my versions of them all. I think I'm going to cast them in silicone for a more realistic look. I just started working with silicone and I just love the way it looks.

Thanks Wes R I agree with 100% I think they use CGI way to much. Practical effect are so much better when used in the right situation.

You were good. I would also like to be able to carve so well and so small. I see little to close due to age. I have to wear glasses, but I think even a magnifying glass to make these small sculptures.:):thumbsup

I love how every detail has a practical yet menacing feel to it. Can't wait to see a pull of this painted up.
Thanks Alex, I just made the mold and I'm getting ready to cast him is silicone. I will definitely post up pics when it's all done.
