Cowboy Bebop - Spike's Jericho 941 - WIP

The Jericho is by far the coolest, sleekest, sexiest looking gun ever.
Been wanting a real steel version forever.

Anyway, I used to have the Hudson Jericho but lost interest in it due to the mag seals on mine having an annoying leaking problem. One day on the net I came across the Poseidon kit and bought it for an extremely cheap 17 bucks (this was around 2003?). Got the kit, changed out the grip (which is insanely comfortable) and slapped on the laser sight. Sadly the glue strip was weak and I lost the laser. Anyway, the cops ended up stealing my Hudson + Spike grips when I got pulled over speeding and thought it was real. Was hell convincing them it was an air soft gun. Jerks kept it anyway though n told me it was "lost".
Still miss the thing though... Was a really neat replica.

You can get the grips easy enough since they still show up for sale on Yahoo JP, but importing the Hudson is the hard part.

Here's a bump with some content to help any prospective builders who may want to tackle this project. I've gone through my copy of the BluRay set and picked out some nice captures of the pistol. The BD Box is a gorgeous 1080p film transfer from the original animation cells that makes it possible to discern details which could not be seen before.

Even the serial number of Spike's specific 941 (located on the slide next to the ejection port and on the lower frame) can now be read.

The serial number stays consistent through the whole series which is impressive attention to detail on the part of the animator.

Hey everyone,
Loving this thread. I'm currently working on scratch building a Jericho 941 for two projects, turning one into a more sci-fi looking pistol and one into spikes pistol. I would love to be able to walk into a store and buy a nice airsoft version, but they are almost impossible to get here in Australia.
I've drawn up Illustrator files for laser cutting and my first shot was close but a bit too thin. (i'll throw some pics up later)

The problem I'm having is finding some nice accurate measurements, I've got an overall but I'm not sure what that takes into account (ie the safety switch sticking out)
If someone would there would be kind enough to take some measurements for me, ideally in metric, with pictures, I would be forever grateful.
The measurements I need are numbered in the picture attached. jericho.JPG

I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of airsoft in Australia, there's only two airsoft 941's and neither are 100% accurate to the real deal.

Good to know Grey, thanks. One of these days I'll get my hands on a real Jericho (if I had the budget to do so I would now, the armours license my theatre has allows for that, but not airsoft as far as I'm aware). But until then It's scratch building as close as I can get it.

Hello. I recently purchased one of the KWC/Cybergun Jericho 941 airsoft pistols and I was looking to try and mod it to be close to the one that Spike uses in Cowboy Bebop. Even finding one of the KWC pistols is getting hard due to them being discontinued. In doing some research I ran across this thread and was hoping to ask a question or two.

Has anyone found a grip that will fit on the KWC that looks like the one from Cowboy Bebop. I noticed that there were some posts about some grips that were for sale in Japan that were close, however the links to them no longer work. I tried searching yahoo.jp auctions, but came up with no results.

I am also looking for the laser sight part, or considering making one myself. I purchased some very small laser diodes (http://www.amazon.com/Ciamlir-Laser-Module-Sight-Pointer/dp/B00MYUAJ8M) and was planning to try and fit this inside of the laser housing with a coin battery (3Vdc) and a mini switch.

All I can tell you with certainty is that the Poseidon grips will not fit on the KWC gun, because i've tried. I don't know if the "close-enough" grips would fit either, the issue with the KWC is that it's slightly oversized. The laser sight part is relatively thin and you would have a hard time milling out enough material to fit those parts in it without breaking it, the walls would be wafer thin. You'd have better luck fabricating your own.

The kit version for the Hudson has a notch for the frame mounted saftey, the version on the show does not and by extension the solid-cast version maintains this detail since it has no moving parts. Personally I would go with accuracy over functionality if I were to make it, but the kit version is really a very nice sculpt and I don't have the skill or the tools to do a better job.

Digging up this old thread

Anyone have a spare Poseidon Grip set they're willing to sell? or even better, their Jericho with the grips already installed? I'll pay a huge premium for them since they are hard to find

Thanks

Well I just created a new account just to revive this much needed thread. Thought this would be a good place to dip my toes into the world of the RPF.
So I recently purchased an early 90's KBI import Jericho 941 to complete the 15 year of getting Spike Spiegel handgun. Now I need the grips. So i have read this thread and got caught up on the airsoft replicas that don't work and the japanese yahoo jp hobbyist.
Has any more progress been made?

Hello Fellows.

So I know this is a very old thread. I was looking for grips for a Jericho 941 and came across this thread. I have been a Bebop fan since they first showed it on Adult Swim. I worked overnights at the time, so I had recorded them with the VCR (kids, ask your parents) and totally fell in love with Bebop.

Anyway, I'd been wanting a 941 and bought one. I was looking for replacement grips, and stumbled on this thread. I was interested in the higher rez screenshots of Spike's Pistol. I noticed that everyone was wondering about the floor plate of the magazine, and how the laser wouldn't work on a real Jericho because of the lack of cutout.

In an effort to get real, compatible magazines, so that I didn't have to keep reloading the same 16 rounder over and over and over in 100 F degree heat, I went searching for compatible magazines. The ones for the Magnum Research Baby Desert Eagle 9mm, and the CZ75B 9mm Magazines from MecGar fit, and are almost exactly the same. Same in every important functional way for the 941. Same follower. Same shape. Same measurements. One very important difference for the MecGar magazines.

Let's get into a little history. The Jericho 941 made by IMI for the IDF. CZ 75B redone by Tanfoglio. FIrst imported into the US in the 90's by KBI of Harrisburg, PA. Spike's is a Jericho 941 in .40 S&W, Serial 03555. Now, I'd swear on all that's holy some of the published information states that his 941 was a .40 S&W model. I want to say it's the small anime books. Could be wrong, but I've believed this for so long, I know I had to have read it. So if I'm wrong in regards to the caliber it was due to the material on hand.

Now if we consider that because it was a surplus or used import, whoever was using it as a drawing reference, it probably didn't have an original Tanfoglio made magazine. So it probably used a compatible MecGar for a CZ. I'm guessing the view that the laser plate was thick, as well as the magazine floor plate were probably because it's tough to draw something that slender and as a cast part, wouldn't stand up to display or any sort of rough handling.

I'll shut up now and post pics.
Real steel MecGar mag for a CZ75B

As drawn notice the very small contour of the floor plate at the bottom of the grip. Just like the real steel.

Probably the reason everyone thinks it should be a big piece and would be wrong:
CB.941.S01E05.Magplate.JPG

In finding what was most likely the reason for the magazine as depicted, I'm going to guess the Poseidon Grips(?) are not correct in their depiction of the laser. It's probably much smaller (thinner) to fit the contour of the frame. But you can't do that in resin, or plastic or whatever the kit is made of, so they went with what they thought it looked like on screen, when in reality no laser exists, but it's easier to do on the real deal if you thin out the mounting plate.

Hope this helps some of you in your quest.
